Narnia's next film is 'The Magician's Nephew'

The Magician's Nephew will be fourth Narnia film
Prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be next CS Lewis novel to be adapted for the big screen, reports say

The makers of the Narnia films are to head back to the start of the story in their efforts to carry the series forward. A report in the Christian Post says prequel novel The Magician's Nephew will be the next CS Lewis children's story to be adapted for the big screen.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Production year: 2010
Country: USA
Cert (UK): PG
Runtime: 112 mins
Directors: Michael Apted
Cast: Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, Liam Neeson, Simon Pegg, Skandar Keynes, Tilda Swinton, Will Poulter
More on this film
The move would mean a return for the White Witch, played by Tilda Swinton in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, since Lewis's later novel explains how she came to settle in Narnia. Even though her character was destroyed in the first film, The Magician's Nephew goes back to a time before the first film and tells the story of how the White Witch originally came to Narnia. It is expected that Tilda Swinton will reprise the role.
The Magician's Nephew is the sixth book published by Lewis, but is the first chronologically. It tells the story of how Narnia was created, revealing the origins of the wardrobe and other items first introduced in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
"We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the CS Lewis estate now about the Magician's Nephew being our next film," said Michael Flaherty of Walden Media, which owns the screen rights to the Narnia series. "If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years."
The Narnia films have produced ever-diminishing returns at the box office since The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe debuted with a spectacular $745m (£457m) in 2005. The Magician's Nephew is said to be the series' second most popular book, so producers are hoping it may return the franchise to its glory days. "I love the Magician's Nephew because it's a great origins story. You get to learn so much about where the wardrobe came from, where the lamppost came from, where Narnia came from," said Flaherty.
Many fans of the series had expected The Silver Chair, which continues the story of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader's Eustace, to be the next novel to be filmed.

Late news but I only found out today...
But I can't. This is the best novel of the series...It's a dream come true for me... The filmmakers choose the right book with the most potential to sway in the fans they lost after the first movie...

Finally. Should have been first but LWATW always generates more interest because so many people don't read all the books

Gerl, learn your history...
I love HP's story better but Rowling was greatly influenced by Lewis...
Quote:
Rowling has said she was a fan of the works of C. S. Lewis as a child, and cites the influence of his Narnia chronicles on her work: "I found myself thinking about the wardrobe route to Narnia when Harry is told he has to hurl himself at a barrier in Kings Cross Station - it dissolves and he's on platform Nine and Three-Quarters, and there's the train for Hogwarts."
She is, however, at pains to stress the differences between Narnia and her world: "Narnia is literally a different world", she says, "whereas in the Harry books you go into a world within a world that you can see if you happen to belong. A lot of the humour comes from collisions between the magic and the everyday worlds. Generally there isn't much humour in the Narnia books, although I adored them when I was a child. I got so caught up I didn't think CS Lewis was especially preachy. Reading them now I find that his subliminal message isn't very subliminal."[15] New York Times writer Charles McGrath notes the similarity between Dudley Dursley, the obnoxious son of Harry's neglectful guardians, and Eustace Scrubb, the spoiled brat who torments the main characters until converted by Aslan.

The Chronicles of Narnia were around long before Harry Potter and are some of the most beloved child hood stories in the world.
You will respect the genius of C.S. Lewis.

I wasnt talking about the books.
I was talking about the **** movies
The only reason they were made were because of Harry Potters success.
And the last 2 have flopped.
No one is here for this movie.

This is by far the best book in the series, & the only one I can read all the way through.
The reason Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Trader did so poorly is because no one cares about the books. No one is here for the tired Lucy, Edmund, Peter & Susan combo after The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.
Anyway after The Magician's Nephew they should just stop with this series. If they ever make a movie for The Horse & His Boy...

Are you having a laugh?
This is like the 4th tv/film adaption of the books.
They are being remade because we now have the technology to make the characters come to life like never before. Loads of series are getting reboots due to technology advances, it's nothing to do with HP.

It was obvious they were in it for the money.
After seeing HP's success they decided to make the Wardrobe, but after that the series went downhill.
Its not like the effects in the last one were good at all .

No, they weren't flops. Check your facts. A flop movie is a movie that didn't recover their production budgets and promotional expenses. Both films made 400M+ gross. Those numbers aren't flops. They weren't just as successful as the first film.
And Lol @ you thinking Harry Potter was the reason for all of this books being made into films. You are forgetting LOTR and with that skewed logic of yours, it's like you're saying that LOTR jump into HP bandwagon... You're a mess...The LOTR Film Trilogy was already being plan during 1997. And that time, Rowling was still a struggling author... Gurl, bye...
