From Rock & Roll / Pop-Ballad of the 80's ---> original Pop of the 90's ---> R&B / Hip-Hop era of the 00's ---> Electro / Dance for this new era/decade 10's

I believe Dance is in now because of the economy. Reminds me of the Great Depression. After the Depression people found ways of entertainment and way to get away from it all. Same here, the economy sucks and people want to dance and forget about it all.

Upgraded production technique, change in technique/style, wanting of something new. Everything branches off of each other.

Experimentation is the most important aspect of music period, & has gotten us where we are today.

Some ballads make people more depressed.

I also think it has to do with digital sales. Back in the 90s and early 2000s, we saw more older artists ranging from their late 20s up to even their 40s dominating the charts, but now that digital sales are prominent, that's changing. Guess who buys digitally the most?

Kids.

Young people basically control what's popular in the industry now because we are the generation that's leading the technological revolution. Ask a 70 -year old to go on the internet and they probably won't even know how to turn the damn thing on.

I think it's fairly generational

It's a new JENeration and also technology play a big factor in the change.

I voted for option #1. I think it all starts off with one or two artists that experiments with a different sound and then it catches on, and everyone else starts doing it.

That makes sense, but I don't think that's it, at least not consciously.
That's what popped in my head when I saw that option.

I think iTunes has alot to do with low record sales. cause people can go & buy the songs they like for 1.29 rather than a full album for 18.00 or more
