I love how people make it seem that being a great actress means your singing career will tank as if you can't be successful with both. Brandy was doing her best when she was able to juggle both, Will Smith had his biggest hits when he crossed over to film but non of that applies to Aaliyah? I don't subscribe to the Bey comparisons because they are completely different and Bey works very hard so I don't think anyone would have stopped her but that same logic applies to Aaliyah she died because she was overworked and her label wasnt prepared for her film career to take off the way it did.

With that said I also don't get how people group her with what Brandy and Monica are doing now because her musical style was different from theirs (self titled shows the direction she was headed in) and her style was what was winning in the 00s. Aaliyah could perform, she had a good versatile voice, was a flawless beauty, fashion forward and wasn't afraid to take risks which are attributes that Rihanna and Bey have and why they are successful.

The only thing that flopped before she died was WNAR which weirdly enough she never performed that song the video was all it had going for it. Her last album gave her the highest 1st week sales of her career ( flop single and all) and it was her fastest to obtain gold status (she was a multi platinum artist) and her global success got bigger with each era due to her label actually promoting her more overseas within her last few years of living.

I said Aaliyah was bigger than Beyonce at the time, not dc. So stop bringing up sales she had to share with five other women. As a standalone name Beyonce wasn't bigger than Aaliyah.

She interviewed alot of people, including Aaliyah. Meaning Aaliyah was a bigger star and had a rising career that Beyonce noted herself.

And small mark on history? Bye. You dont even believe that yourself. Almost Every r & b girl (including Beyonce and solange) stated Aaliyah as an influence.


If it makes you feel better that Beyonce is bigger than someone that died 15 years ago, by all means celebrate lol. But when both were on this earth, Aaliyah had that same girl dancing to her songs on stage and giving her interviews.

Right. Wnar flopped and they act like it was the end of her career as if no one ever had a flop song before. I cant at them basing Aaliyah's entire future off of what an album did in six weeks with only 1 single. What kinda silly logic.

I love Aaliyah but the Marrix wouldn't have done much for her career, a terrible movie.

I think she would've become much bigger than she was in music but to think she would've had a big career like Bey? Nah. There is nothing wrong with that though.

It doesn't make sense to say Aaliyah was the bigger solo star because Bey wasn't a solo artist just like it doesn't make sense to compare Aaliyah to DC since Aaliyah wasn't a pop girl group. Just stop the comparisons. And Bey interviewing Aaliyah doesn't mean she was inferior it was a job just like Aaliyah had no problem hosting TRL that wasn't a knock against her it was a fun job that she took, people should stop using that interview as stan war "receipts" to determine who was bigger it's stupid.

Its stupid that the hive keeps coming in here to discredit Aaliyah and then cry foul when someone does it to Bey.


Like I said, you cant shade Aaliyah's career when she had the same girl you stan for interviewing her. Thats it and thats all. Im not the one who compared Aaliyah to dc in the first place.

There are some hive members in here being extra shady which unfortunately is typical of them when it comes to any female singer not named Beyonce but all that I'm saying is that interview doesn't really mean much because regardless if Aaliyah showed up to that award show or not Beyoncé still would have done that hosting gig it wasn't like she was there to only interview Aaliyah.

Aaliyah put most of her career on hold for high school and to be a regular kid. Which is why when they entered the 2000's Aaliyah's career was rising as adult while Brandy's was stalling.

I purposely avoided this thread and of course it went exactly as I thought: within the first posts Bey was mentioned and by the end of the thread, virtually every post is about Bey.

Anyway, yeah it doesn't make sense to say she would've flopped had she lived, but it also doesn't make sense to make any other claims related to her beyond August 2001, either. I don't understand why people can't just simply enjoy what she did do for what it is and leave this other speculative nonsense -- especially those involving other artists -- alone.

Aaliyah was so ahead of her time. I can imagine her having a big era during 2005/2006 when Timbaland production was blowing up.

For ONE ERA she outdid Aaliyah on their sophomore albums that's it lmao...both of their 1st albums damn near did smiliair #s and Aaliyah's last album before her death had a better opening 1st week and I'm sure a better chart run than Full Moon.

Brandy was only bigger for nsn era and by that point Aaliyah was already on musical hiatus gearing up for her acting career.

Brandy and Aaliyah had two seperate career paths and goals. What Brandy sold and did, doesnt negate Aaliyah's success. Thats like saying Prince is irrelevant because MJ was bigger.
