If sex or race is a trait like any other then I don't see why it should be highlighted in any form other than describing someone physically. Trump, for instance will be the first non-politician president or the first president named Donald. Everyone is first in something.
Personally, I couldn't care less about the sex, race or sexual orientation of a president as long as they're a good president.

Well that's because those are huge milestones in the history of this country. It is huge to have the first Black man be President and it would be huge to have the first woman as far as history goes. It shows a shift in demographic where at one time Black people and women were not allowed to even vote.
Just cause someone else is the first of something else, doesn't mean it's as big of a history moving moment. Clearly what they do also matters more than that, hence why it's not the defining part of the presidency but the policies are.
Feigning blindness to those qualities of a person doesn't mean they are not there, no one is praising Obama just for being Black or saying he is better for being Black and getting elected but acknowledging the historical fact that he is Black and became a President. Something so unthinkable half a century ago.
And the media has been reporting on how Trump is the first to not hold political office or be in service to the country to become President anyway. Unlike his name, that has to do with how those who want to be President but are not in government or service view becoming President. That could possibly set a precedent for more people like that. That would be something that opens opportunities and doors.
