Music News: Muse records new song, first single for "Eclipse" soundtrack

The soundtrack is available for pre-order on Amazon, and Twi-hards have already pushed the release to Number 25 on the current Amazon Music Bestsellers list without even knowing the rest of the track list.

"Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever)" marks the first time Muse have contributed a brand new song to a Twilight soundtrack. The first film in the series featured Black Holes and Revelations's "Supermassive Black Hole" and New Moon included a remixed version of The Resistance's "I Belong to You." According to the official Muse site, the trio wrote and recorded "Neutron Star Collision" earlier this year before it was handpicked to kick off the Eclipse soundtrack.

Past Twilight soundtracks have featured Thom Yorke, the Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Grizzly Bear, Paramore, Bon Iver and St. Vincent and Lykke Li.

I'm not expecting anything truly epic, given the previous Muse songs that were contributed to the Twilight series (even if I do love them both), but, dammit, it's NEW MUSE. That is cause for celebration alone.

It's a great song, but, if we're talking about epicness, it's nowhere near the likes of "Space Dementia" and "Citizen Erased".

See, that's the mindset of a lot of Muse fans, but my logic is that these new fans are the reason that "Uprising" got to the top 40 on the Hot 100, and adding more fans to the equation adds up to more success in the long run. As long as their music stays consistently awesome (and I have faith in them, obviously), then I'm not concerned.
