You're forgiven, but listen to Trilogy's mixtapes separately and start out with the industry's magnum opus, House of Balloons. Just make sure your wig is securely glued to your scalp

If it was the year of black excellence more black artists would be excelling aside from the 4 or 5 that the mainstream/white people have already been d riding for years now (half of whom the term excellence is arguable to begin with)
They just all happened to release this year as opposed to during different years
|
I don't agrih, sorry.
If they released this year, I highly doubt they wouldn't be as acclaimed and as recognized as they were. A good album is a good album. Artists like Solange and Kevin Gates weren't even really "mainstream" until their albums dropped, nor do they have a strong white following so none of that applies to them.
Every black artist that was listed on every single list delivered great music regardless of who is dick riding them or kissing their ass. True black excellence makes white people take notice. Agrih to disagrih

Will do . I'm shopping for a new wig today because the double PUNCH of KL & BBTM was too much
I can't believe I slept on him

You're missing the point. It's the same 4 or 5 black artists that have been getting praised by critics (who are white). It just seems more dominant because instead of one or two being released they all happened to release this year
It's not the year of black excellence. It's the year of the same black people whites are already obsessed with releasing at the same time. That's it
Neither Solange nore Kevin Gates are mainstream. And still they're being overshadowed by (as usual) by the blacks that white people are obsessed with

Because there isn't one. I'm sorry that "the blacks" that you think are mainstream are getting praised, but that's nothing to get upset over They delivered GREAT albums. Just because white critics and white audiences acknowledge a great string of work from a group of artists that constantly deliver substance doesn't make it invalid.
I agree that artists like Solange were overshadowed, but it's not like her album didn't receive acclaim, reach #1, got her put her placed in the Grammy conversation and a debut performance on SNL. I never said Solange was mainstream. I implied she never received mainstream recognition until her album was released. People are starting to take notice in black performers. If that wasn't the case, an album LIKE THAT from an artist LIKE HER wouldn't have garnered as much attention as it did.
I just simply do not agree, baby. No offense. If there were better albums by black artists that were released THIS YEAR that you think got snubbed, then take that up with the publications that did that.

You're completely missing the point. I'm not upset nor am I specifically saying other black artists have gotten snubbed. My only point is I don't see how white people kissing and liking the same black asses they've been kissing for years now = the year of black excellence just because they released.
If other black artists were excelling sure. But it's literally the same black white-approved artists that have been being praised (and would be regardless of when they released). Just like J Cole said "you pitchfork rappers chosen by them white people" it kind of applies to this. Like tbh what is this excellence even based off of? Because white people and critics, who already like them, said so?

I literally just touched on your "point". Your first point was that for it to be the year of black excellence, non mainstream artists like Jazmine Sullivan & Miguel had to excell. I pointed out that they didn't even release this year, their recent work was acclaimed (as well as Grammy nominations, spots on year end lists etc.) and that Solange & Kevin Gates as alternatives recieved that acclaim this year. You make it seem like it's JUST white people who are praising them when black publications are doing the same thing.
Beyoncé was placed at #1 on multiple year end lists
3/5 of the top 5 album on Rolling Stone are by black artists. Other BLACK artists such as Young Thug, Kanye West, Blood Orange, Solange, Esperanza Spalding, Future, Drake, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Danny Brown also made that list.
A Seat At The Table, a #BLM inspired album went #1 and recieved acclaim.
Frank Ocean delivered two great albums back to back in the same weekend.
Two of the most successful women this year were BLACK women
A BLACK woman had one of if not the highest grossing tour this year
Formation a song about black culture + power was released and topped year end lists.
That is EXCELLENCE.
Black artists outperformed and delivered better and stronger bodies of work compared to their white peers. Like I've stated before, there's a reason white people kiss their asses. Because they're THAT good. True black excellence makes white people take notice.
Agree to disagree

Then why weren't any of the years they were acclaimed seemed as the year of black excellence? Oh yeah cuz they aren't popular and white people aren't riding them as hard
Outperformed and outdelivered...according to...white people
So basically what you're saying is it's the year of what white people deem as black excellence
AgreeD!

Nope. Black people don't make any the year end lists that you are going on about or referencing (TIME, NME, Pitchfork, etc). Nor is Rolling Stone or any of them other publications where all this "acclaim!" you're talking about black publications.
You know damn well you aren't talking about the HipHopDx year end lists sis. But keep trying
The year of what white people deem as black excellence. AGREED

Girl, let it go!
We WON. All you did was prove it. Our excellence extended so far and beyond that it got the white people licking our asses WHEW. The same people who underrated our music and wouldn't digest it unless it was watered down and recorded by a white person. I have chills The lists. The acclaim, the praises, the future Grammy nominations...it's all too much to take

The fact that you equate "winning" to being praised by white publications and white people
Black people are always excelling. Black excellence is always out here, it's not just this year. But the fact that it takes white people "recognizing" or praising it for you to take notice and for it to mean something? You're pretty much saying it's the year of black excellence because white people said so. Eek!
My point = officially proven. Toodles!

No, sugar booger! We win every time we succeed and this year we did just thaT. So much that white people are taking notice. I never said we're only winning because white people told us we were sdfg The only reason this was discussed because you came in here crying about white people acknowledging talent as if it's a bad thing d

But...white people always notice and praise the black artists that released this year?
I said nothing about talent so no. And by no means does recignition necessarily equate to talent anyway. But for the last time, black people are always slaying. The only reason you're calling this year the "year of black excellence" is because white people have said so (about the same 4 or 5 black artists that they ride anyway). It just so happened that they all ended up releasing in the same year.

Girl, you are NOT going to keep talking me to death. You keep saying "ooo they released all in the same year!" as if that proves the opposite. If those black artists (who are great regardless of this dick you keep carrying on about) + other non mainstream artists released great bodies of work in which their WHITE peers could not touch then..hm. But you're entitled to your wrong opinion
