Its weird cause I always thought Kylie just jack'd Ray of Light while listening to Impossible Princess then I looked up the release dates and I was legit shocked

They were released less than 4 months from each other, the idea of ROL being a copy is literally impossible.

I think it has more to do with the fact that IP is a very organic and hollow-sound driven album, extremely ahead of its time. And while Ray of Light has a technically totally different sound and themes, it does have a similar vibe, thus the comparisons from pop aficionados.

To be honest it's possible. Madonna may have started work on ROL in early 1997 but she started out working with Babyface at the time so she may have gotten inspired later on?

She wrote some songs with Babyface prior to that, then Rick, then Leonard. Madonna met with Orbit personally in May 1997, Kylie wasn't in her mind.
