but both albums are definitely one of their best.. its a big big shame that IP flopped....

Kylie and Madonna influenced each other many times, but this is not the case.

Both albums were written and recorded at almost the same time and came out only 4 months apart.

Madonna was already heading in that direction, she was working with Orbit for months, she already embraced electronica and trip hop on her previous albums, had a Bjork track on Bedtime Stories and worked with Massive Attack in 95. Its clear where the influence came from.

How could Kylie's album have had any "impact" on ROL when it was released just two months earlier? Madonna's album was probably finished and wrapped up by the time Kylie released hers...

ray of light wasnt innovative or influential because of its musicality, its just regarded as progressive due to the fact that up until that point that specific sort of spacial electronic sound hadnt necessarily made it onto top 40 pop radio. but since madonna was so popular and mainstream, with ray of light she took it there.

Confessions DOES have Kylie influences, both musically and visually. People underestimate Fever's impact, especially given that even Madonna herself acknowledged Kylie several times in the early '00s.
