Every year, around the fall time, us north Americans go wild for pumpkins. Everything is pumpkin flavored, we decorate our houses with pumpkins, we use the pumpkin seeds inside to make salty pumpkin seed snacks etc etc...
Is this a universal thing or is this phenom a North America exclusive?

Blame Starbucks.

Thought it's mainly cause of the Halloween season.

Personally I hate anything with Pumpkin in it. Nasty.

I'm from Canada and even when I was a little pumpkin myself who drank 0 caffeinated drinks etc..my family would go to pumpkin picking farms during the fall to snatch pumpkins to decorate our house and cook with Starbucks's pumpkin flavors are only a reflection of what our market already loves

Halloween is a big part of it but we start the pumpkin thing like from the first week of september. like we decorate our house with pumpkins for Thanksgiving too and we have pumpkin flavored everything for the entirety of the fall

Pumpkins are native to the North American continent I believe

Corn is also more impactful on this side of the Atlantic for the same reason

I'm here for pumpkin pie and none of the rest of this Halloween associated nonsense.

Yes! The decorations here are mostly Pumpkins and Spiderwebs

Halloween in general is more celebrated in N.A. than in Europe.

Maybe 'cuz we have way better autumns.

Because it's fall and squash is a fall vegetable and it's just a festive crop native to our continent

I have a flatmate here from Virginia at the moment and she's amazed that we don't use pumpkin at all aside from roasting it with other vegetables and making it into a soup. She made pumpkin pancakes the other day and they tasted soooooo good!

But yeah, I'd say it's a North American thing.

Also our pumpkins look different to your ones and she said they resemble more of a squash to her, which after googling makes sense as it says our pumpkins are variants of a winter squash.

I've never seen one of those orange-skin pumpkins in my life.
