I see people say things such as,"I hate feminism/feminists so much ugh", yet they support gender equality. Isn't feminism gender equality?

I get what they're saying when they hate feminists, but a genuine feminist isn't anything like the modern day society feminist we all love to make fun of for being an SJW

A friend of mine is doing a research paper on this. There's a couple of reasons:

a) they are just sexist pigs
b) some men believe that they cannot call themselves feminists and instead something like allies
c) feminist is a loaded word and many women, even, associate it with the bra burner who hates men
d) others adopt the term "womanist" as opposed to feminist since they think womanist is more inclusive of WOC

Just my two cents anyway

EDIT: I would call myself a feminist since I don't think a/b/c are fair or reasonable. I understand WHY someone would call themselves a womanist but I believe that feminism just needs to be pushed to be inclusive of WOC

Would you say that the original meaning of feminism is still prevalent? Or that the "SJWs" and extremists have completely shifted the movement towards another purpose?

I feel that, if people were to hate on "feminists" for the wrong reasons, they should be saying extremists/SJWs instead of feminists, because it makes every feminist look bad. Today in class, we had a discussion on gender equality and I said,"as a feminist..." Then all of a sudden 80% of the guys started snickering

What can we do to stop this misinterpretation of the traditional feminist?

In an ideal word that's what it would mean but tbh feminism has turned into a joke is a filled with arrogant, entitled, self-hating, psychotic people. Both men and women.
