i noticed that there is alot of hate and negativity amongst the vegan community especially when a person is a said self proclaimed vegan. There's this vegan police that distinguishes someone as being "vegan" and "plant-based". There's this vegan woman on Youtube named Mommytang that does mukbang videos, where she eats in front of her camera everyday to her 219k subscribers. She responds to a comment in her last youtube video and prior to the response, asking if she's "either more plant-based or a vegan". She sums up in the video that she went vegan primarily for health reasons. That is where the vegan police comes in. She's been getting negative comments from other vegans, saying that she isn't a "true vegan" because she's only doing it for her own personal gain, and not for the animals' rights.
what do you think about this vegan police? do you think vegan youtuber mommytang deserves this hate? What do you think makes someone a "vegan"?

Well being vegan is about the animals, but I could see someone doing it for health reasons. Either way that person is vegan and the animals are being saved, so what's the big deal? It doesn't matter why somebody is vegan.

Vegans are being extra and annoying as ****. They keep attacking people on social media for the silliest reasons. The extremists should choke on a cucumber tbh.

I think this is really sad - and would hate to think that it discourages people from it. I have to say, I'm vocal in many vegan circles and don't experience or witness this. At the end of the day, anyone eating a plant-based diet is producing huge benefits for themselves, for animals and the environment - it doesn't matter what lead them to it, but if they're doing it everyday, it should be applauded!

The whole being "truest" thing just drives people away and it's really excessive.

The Vegan police can be very hateful when it comes to little things like this. I'm not a vegan myself, but watching Mommytang's videos makes me more concious about my nutritious options. Vegans may not approve her methodology, but she makes vegan food look delicious, from a meatlover's standpoint

I wasn't aware that this was happening.. I thought they wanted people to stop consuming meat. So people are doing what they want by going Vegan and they are angry over the reason? Are all Vegans this angry or just the ones online? I notice most of the yt vegans are not nice.

If she's just eating a plant-based diet she isn't vegan (although I applaud her for not exploiting animals for food, she's still doing a great thing) but if she also doesn't wear animal products and doesn't use products tested on animals then she is vegan, regardless of her reasoning for doing it.
Either way it's still a good thing to stop consuming meat and to be more environmentally-friendly, people should focus less on criticising her and more on criticising the awful meat & dairy industry.

Nvm i forgot about stuff like leather, and products tested on animals. They have a point imo. True vegans give up meat/dairy and anything tested on animals.

it's the ones that can be summed up as the "stereotypical, traditional vegans". Vegans should be supportive of other vegans, especially others who are willing to try to convert. Things like these are some of the reasons why veganism is seen as a turn off amongst non vegans.

Usually when veganism is described to me it's about what someone is ingesting so that's interesting, but what's wrong with even doing all those things for a personal comfort rather than mainly to think about the animals?

She is vegan by definition. I think veganism can be a rewarding lifestyle, but it's unfortunate that the 'vegan police' are attacking this woman for no reason. It just makes vegans look bad.

Oh my god! I forgot a crucial part! Before she was a vegan, which was about two years ago, she was the type of woman who had to have luxurious high end products, especially leather/animal fur, etc. She doesn't buy anymore real animal products, but she still keeps her leather/animal fashion products(she doesn't use them anymore), simply because of the sentimental value that she had with them two years ago(i.e. her husband flew all the way from michigan to new york to get her this one of a kind Purse for their one year anniversary)
sorry i forgot

A lot of people think it's just a diet but it actually isn't, it's a lifestyle. The phrase "vegan" and The Vegan Society were founded on the principle of not exploring animals through food, clothing or any other method. It's an animal rights issue not just a dietary one.
I mean it doesn't really make a difference to me what peoples reasoning are for going vegan tbh, the fact that they are still helping animals and the planet is all that really matters. I respect them regardless.

Well that's up to her, as long as she isn't buying any more animal products then cool. I think a nice idea is to give your old fur/leather coats to homeless charities but she can do what she wants, I'm just happy she's helping animals now.

Not necessarily. It depends on whether or not she wears leather, uses products tested on animals etc. as well. But I'm happy she isn't eating meat.

Vegan Police just mad they can't have a good steak
The ones that hate and drive it home, are the ones who want to feel less sorry for themselves. I get why people want to spread the word and whatever, but the ones who literally attack? Yeah no.
My friend is Vegan and not once has she asked me to become one.
