Yup totally agreed. Turkey is, regarding to gays and women rights, one of the few, if not the only, muslim country who was more open and accepting though. Unfortunately things will change now.
The only way for Turkey to be safe now is to get rid of Erdogan, unfortunately muslims will support him no matter what, that's a big ****ing shame.
I hope they will never be accepted into the EU (under the dictatorship of Satandogan) and this comes from a turkish guy living in Germany. We don't need their nonsense over here.

The most free Middle Eastern Muslim country is, probably, Iran at this point.

I wonder if you will still find it funny when you see someone like you, a gay guy, getting beheaded. Islam is the most evil religion on this planet and that's a fact.

I couldn't weigh in on the issue cuz I was actually busy trying to get myself both safe and updated on the matters constantly. I won't be reciting the words that's been already established. I will try to give you a perspective from the Anatolian part of Turkey, as I reside in there.
As the coup news broke out, a few people like myself got to the grocery store in a heart beat. Erdogan started chanting his words for calling all the poeple to streets when I was literally trying to get my hands on a carton of milk, we were a terrified bunch watching it on Tv in grocery store. I heard a guy asking if he has gone mad for good. I purchased what I would need for 2 days and got back to my apartment.
That's when the piss storm started. I never in my wildest dreams could believe people would actually take to the streets and start screaming Islamic takbir. First it was a few cars getting into a pool with their constant honks, in a matter of thirty minutes the whole two way street was packed with cars, each one honking non stop. The constant honks was extremely demoralizing.
But the real terror started for me when every Mosque in my area started the call for prayers, I was deeply in shock. I am raised Muslim and I know what my religion is, Mosque's shall not call for prayer unless it's one of the five times of the day. Yet, they were calling for prayers every fifteen minutes and some of those Mosques started to call people to come out on the streets to take back their democracy. Mind you we speak Turkish but we follow Islam entirely in its Arabic form, meaning all the prayers and prayer calls are made in Arabic language. It was my first time in my entire life, have I ever heard a Mosque announcing in Turkish let alone political messages in Turkish.
I was scared for my well being as the various identities I carry happen to be all minority level in this country. But right now I know it dead well neither I nor the other minorities will be at ease in this land. I was anticipating a witch hunt to start in a few years, but it might be sooner than I expect. Please at least make some noise for the LGBT community in Turkey if they ever decide to deliberately come after us in the future. Because I am scared they will come after anyone once they achieve the kind of authority they yearn for.

Please get in contact with LGBT shelters in your area in Germany in the future if you can. I don't know what the future holds for us, but I hope we can turn to our Turkish brothers in Europe for help, as I hope we shall never see those kind of times.

Stop reading old books and come into the present, Islam is by far the most evil and vicious religion in the world today, Christianity was at one point but not anymore.

The actual scripture has actually very little to do with how a religion portrays itself in the world right now. In the 1930s-1950s, I would agree - Christianity was by far the most dangerous religion. There were a lot of Christian groups preaching hatred, and a lot of severe racism and anti-semitic was being taught from a Christian viewpoint.
Thankfully, the majority of Christian countries and churches are past that. You can now walk into a church in a lot of countries in the world (yes, not all), including the UK, US, and most of Western/Central Europe and you will find acceptance as a gay person. And if you're a woman, you'll be treated the same. Where if you want an abortion, you won't be thrown out and your community see you as disgusting.
None of the above can be said about Islam in today's world, and Turkey was doing an okay at being an open, free, democratic country with a Muslim population. Sadly, that is disappearing.

I sincerely hope you realize how wrong your thinking is as you grow up, without witnessing any harm.

I am disgusted at the prospect of educated secular turks like yourself being thrown under the bus in the years to come. And disgusted at the stupidity of so many of these Erdogan followers.
I still had hope the secular Turkey of Ataturk would manage to rise from its ashes somehow, but I must admit that hope has been severely reduced now.

that's the thing now, those Erdogan supporters who are violent and loud are taking control and those silent muslims in Turkey are scared to voice up for the fear of their life. Because unlike the right-wingers in their country, those muslims indeed are peaceful.
They use brains rather than hands and legs to crush somebody's skulls and bones and leave them in a pool of blood out on the streets.

He's still polling at over 50%, far ahead of any other party. That's a lot of people voting for him. They might be peaceful but they are voting for a party and a man allowing a violent minority to express itself and take control. They have a responsibility in this too.

my comment about peaceful muslims was for those who are affraid to stand up against Erogan's goverment. And yeah, there are also such muslims who are voting for him, but they are being ignorant if they think being a country like the ones in the middle east are better than those in the west. So many restricting will be made against minorities and they won't be protected at all. And wtf are women in Turkey doing? They have the right to vote, do they really want to be treated like the women in some parts of the middle east?

55% of women voted for him in 2014. He actually did better with them than with men. So apparently yes, they do.
