I'm listening to a debate radio station and they're talking about open relationships.

What are your opinions on them? Do you see them as actual relationships?

Personally I don't see it as an actual relationship because a relationship is meant to be between two people. Going off to sleep with other people while claiming to be in a relationship just screams cheating.

I've literally only ever seen it lead to problems. usually it's becuase one of the people in the relationship loves the other person but doesn't wanna be tied to them and wants to do their own thing while technically still being in a relationship.

I don't see the point because relationships are about commitment. I also don't understand why you're in a relationship if you want to see other people. But if it makes somebody happy

i wouldn't have one. i was talking to a guy once and he was in an open relationship, i had a conversation w/ him about it and he told me the reason they had one was because his boyfriend doesn't enjoy sex (with anyone, never has) so the boyfriend gave him permission to have sex w/ anyone..

but then it turned out the boyfriend was actually super jealous and sad about it secretly, he just gave permission bc he didn't want to let his partner down sexually

if i had an open relationship i could see myself being like that boyfriend.. secretly jealous and sad but telling my partner i'm fine with it to keep them happy

I honestly wouldn't mind, but I'd be concerned that they'd catch something and pass it to me. That would be my only reservation.

I'm not sure whether I would be able to be in one but I can see how it works for some people and I'm in no position to judge anyone for being in one. As long as whoever is in it is aware it's an open relationship, what's the problem?

Well you actually can because it works very well for some couples, lol. It's becoming a lot more common in the gay community.

For it to work, you have to be quite clear about the rules. Also, an open relationship does not mean the sex you have with your partner is not special. It's the emotion that makes it different, that's what makes a relationship work. So sex outside the relationship has to be limited to sex for sex's sake, not emotional sex.

I've been with some who are in an open relationship. I think it's fine if both people are fine with it and it's what they want. I personally won't get into one.

I think only 2 types of people accept to these. People who are very hot and don't want to settle down to just one person, and people who are super insecure and have a hot partner who wants to be in an open relationship so out of fear of losing them they accept their request. Same works for 'polyamorous' relationships. People will settle for anything if they're desperate enough.

The relationship still is between two people.

And no, it's not cheating if the rules or "contract" of the relationship have not been broken.

I'd rather be in a relationship that's open, then be in one that I would have to keep a secret.

It would make me think, why is this person not wanting to tell others that we are together?

EDIT: Oh. "Open relationships"... Yeah, I don't see the point in those.

I like the idea of being with only one person in a committed relationship but as long as no one's getting hurt, they can do whatever.
