I'm an existential nihilist. It makes me quite depressed at times. Although I believe life likely has no meaning, I believe we might as well make one while we're here. So I swing between realism and idealism. At the end of the day, though, I always come back to nihilism, which sucks.

Have you heard of the philosophy Objectivism? I'm thinking about adopting it as one of my main belief systems.

I think you can be both. Objectivism is the philosophy that every human being lives out their lives through personal self interest. Basically every decision we make benefits our well being in some way. That we need a system which enables people to have productive achievements. Basically, this is why rich people are often sad despite having everything. They are stagnant. Productive achievement / room for rational self interest to be expressed is necessary for everyone.
