Has anyone water fasted, and what was your experience like?
I'm about to go on a one-week water fast starting tomorrow. I feel like I need a detox & I'm trying to get leaner for summer. I've been working out for a month or so, but I'm stopping so I can reserve my energy during the fast. I'll consume nothing but water, sometimes with lemon.
Fasting doesn't make you leaner, it makes it harder to get rid of fat when you finally eat again. Plus, it's extremely unhealthy, can cause other physical problems and it's not the proper way to get rid of body fat. This is definitely not a "detox" and will hurt your body more than eating healthy and properly exercising.
Please don't do this and please get proper advice before undergoing any drastic diets. Don't do this and don't enourage it.
My sister fasted and she definitely leaned out. It's been like a year and she hasn't gained any fat because she weaned herself back into food slowly & exercised, which I already do.

You don't have to fast to learn how to exercise and not eat unhealthy.

Fasting has detrimental impacts in the long term as well. Not only can fasting damage the immune system, it can also negatively affect many of the body's organs, including the liver and kidneys. Fasting could interfere with vital bodily function. Abstaining from eating could also be potentially dangerous in individuals who are already malnourished, for example, cancer patients. It's even possible for fasting to result in death when the body's stored energy is entirely depleted.
Water fasting is one of the dumbest ways to lose weight. Chances are, you'll gain every pound back and even more after stopping because you can't ever remain consistent with a water fast. The only sustainable and efficient way to lose fat is to exercise consistently, and monitor your calorie instake.
I've fastened for three months eating nothing but water and small vegetables only (peas, corn etc.) It was a very wholesome experience and made me realize hunger issues.
Fasting can get you quick results and it can be dangerous. I started off fasting one day a week but eventually it turned into an eating disorder and I would eat literally nothing 3 or 4 days a week. I started to realize how unhealthy it was when my hair started falling out. If you want to get lean, do it in a healthy way.
