No. It's been reported that five million dollars was paid in exchange for the one million free giveaways; she and the label received the money and made the album less expensive to fans.

In addition, we know that it drove another million Tidal subscribers who may try the service with free trials, and generated plenty of positive publicity.

She marketed well, she didn't "cheat."

Yes, she clearly knew what she was doing. It's cheating the system and everyone knows it.

No. Samsung paid for album downloads. No different than when stans go and buy multiple copies of albums or stream a record continuously to give it more chart points.

I mean, she technically did sell platinum. It's just that Samsung bought all of the albums. But still, it's clearly waaaay less of an accomplishment than selling platinum by having a million of your fans directly buy your album instead of a corporation.

That fans got for free by clicking a link. Samsung bought 1M copies, so it is Platinum, but that doesn't mean it's remotely as impressive as actual fans buying copies of your album.

Well if there was demand, then she wouldn't have had to give fans free downloads. There IS still demand don't get me wrong, it's #1 on US iTunes, but clearly not as much as anticipated.

No one is stopping their faves from getting someone to sponsor a million downloads in order to get a Cert. Rihanna is just someone who did it and the girls are mad for some reason.

Well considering that the album could be downloaded in any part of the world, by whoever, with fake emails and multiple times if they chose to, I don't think it was handled properly. It could have been done in a much better way. But I don't know, it was a very smart move on their part, at least for now.
