Lets use an example:
I'm having a bake sell, I spent hours making lots of batches of cookies on my own dime, and put in work to make a quality product, so I sold each cookie for $1, while some people were hesitant to spend $1 for a cookie, the quality of my work was weighed against the cost and enough people chose that it was worth it and I sold out of my cookies and received a Cookie Seller Award.
Meanwhile, my neighbor... Nihanna, spent multiple years making lots of different cookies, combined some stale, some fresh, and some using the recipes of others. While these may have come out good, she got her rich uncle, Mansung, to pay for all the cookies at a $1 a piece, and she gave them out for free, so lots of people just took a free cookie without any concern or interest in the quality of the product or what they were getting for their money, since they didn't have to pay for it. Mihanna sat back and let people take the cookies, and even though they didn't pay, she got a Cookie Seller Award too, and people said that she got the Cookie Seller Award the quickest because her Uncle paid for them all in advance and they were gone quicker.
By letting Samsung literally purchase her a Platinum plaque, Rihanna totally devalued the work of those who actually put time and effort into putting out their albums and got the same accolades.
