So apparently, now that women and the US are now allowed to serve in combat roles, a mens' rights group is suing. They believe a men's only draft is unconstitutional. What do you think? Will it go through, and will women be forced to be drafted?
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeal heard arguments this week about the constitutionality of a male-only draft — and whether or not the case should go to trial.
The suit was brought by the San Diego-based National Coalition For Men nearly three years ago — after the military began considering allowing women into combat - but was thrown out at the time after the court ruled it wasn't "ripe" because the combat role of women was then in flux.
Now on appeal, the three-judge panel heard arguments in Pasadena a week after Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced that he was lifting all remaining barriers to women serving in military combat jobs.
I really hope it gets abolished. It's crazy we still have something like that in the US in 2015.
They're not the only one's suing. A girl and her mother are also suing because of sexism.
Hmm. I think that in the direction the tides seem to be turning, this would be a logical next step. Don't know if it accords with the sentiment though.
I don't feel inclined to apart of any draft because of my personal beliefs but I still am registered, women should be too. Even if not in the same role
Either everyone should be drafted (of age) or no one should be drafted. Equality is equality but realistically, as a woman, I dont want my name anywhere near a draft. Most women won't be able to perform the combat roles but they do need doctors/nurses correct? Nobody should be drafted, I agree.. and although a draft might not happen in my lifetime, its wrong to force people into the military.
While women and men are and should always be considered intellectual equals, we're not physical equals. I would only agree with women being required to submit for selective service enlistment for supportive/non-combat roles, only; anything further should be on a voluntary basis.
Y'all created this patriarchal society and it's roles. You wanna keep us oppressed, treat us like half citizens and act as if we can't do anything for ourselves and now you wanna throw us in a war? Like, not quite.
It's not like the draft will ever be reinstated anyway, it's the selective service registration. The military is turning people away atm. But yes, they should also have to register. If the draft was reinstated I'd just refuse anyway, let me sit in a prison with a bunch of beefy men while ww3 is going on. Oh no

But if women are able to meet the minimum physical standards, why should it matter they aren't physically equal to men?
