Amanda Bruce said in an interview that she had unprotected sex with Charlie Sheen during the eight months they dated.
Bruce, a nurse, said she knew Sheen was HIV-positive and consulted doctors and took PrEP medication before the couple had sex.
Sheen's physician Dr. Robert Huizenga said he advised Bruce against having unprotected sex with his patient.
Bruce also revealed that Sheen broke down in tears when he told her he was HIV-positive
When asked how often the pair had sex, she told Dr. Oz; 'I was there every day'
Bruce is HIV-negative and is no longer dating or having sexual relations with Sheen
'I was the doctor for her boyfriend, we called in other doctors and
they felt the risk of transmission if she took the prophylaxis and he had undetectable level was miniscule. We can’t say it’s zero,' said Dr. Huizenga.
'And so basically I think my advice to her was, "Don’t do it, but the risk is miniscule." And she elected to then go forward
because she felt so close and wanted that level of intimacy.'
Bruce then explained; 'I mean, if I had met him on one night, and we had decided to engage in this, I'd say,
"That's Russian Roulette."
'The reality is, we had known each other for many months before we engaged in [sexual relations], and we were a couple,
I was in love with him.'
The two were exclusive when they started having unprotected sex according to Bruce,
who also noted that Sheen was always good about taking his medication.
Bruce said the two have since split but remain close and are no longer sexually active with one another.
She also said that she is HIV-negative and that she hopes that Sheen going public will help to remove some of the stigma that surrounds the virus.
Bruce claims she has urged Sheen to reveal his status publicly since the two first met.
