Why is Lara Croft the most Iconic Female in Video Games?
Quote:
With lifetime sales of 36.88 million as of 16 April 2015, Tomb Raider remains the best-selling game franchise with a female lead. As well as two blockbuster movies, Lara Croft has appeared in TV ads, on magazine covers, and even “on stage” with rock band U2. Sales of Lara Croft’s adventures eclipse those of second-placed Samus Aran, star of the Metroid series (Nintendo, 1986-present), which has sold over 17 million units. The ever-popular Ms Croft has also established Tomb Raider as the biggest-selling action-adventure series in publisher Square Enix’s rich gaming portfolio.

Croft scooped awards for the most recognisable female in a video game; most detailed game character; most real-life stand-ins; highest grossing game spin-off and most successful live-action transfer.
Actress Angelina Jolie is best-known as the face of the English heroine, but Croft has also been officially portrayed by five other models including Nell McAndrew, Rhona Mitra and currently by UK gymnast Alison Carroll - giving her the record for the most real-life stand-ins.
Gung-ho Croft - famous for her skin-tight khaki shorts, low-cut vest top and ponytail - became an unlikely sex symbol when she first appeared on the PlayStation in 1996. With 32,816 rendered polygons forming her figure in Tomb Raider: Underworld, she is the most detailed video game character ever created.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider already ranks as the highest-grossing video-game movie but together with its sequel, The Cradle of Life, the franchise has grossed in excess of £216 million, making it the most successful live-action transfer of all time.
Guinness World Records' gaming editor Gaz Deaves said: ''Lara Croft epitomises all that's great about video gaming and we're delighted to acknowledge her success by awarding her with six new official record entries including making her the most-famous and most-successful female video game character in the world.''

She crossed over in a way no other videogame characters have.
As much as I love the reboot I hope they eventually go to the Lara we grew up with.
I know this is a origin story right now but after this game I want them to progress to the old Lara.
The one who is fearless and has a lust for adventure.

She's different in ROTR than in the reboot. She's only gonna grow even stronger in the next game and I'm glad they are developing her character and fleshing it out. I honestly would like a little subtle sexuality in future games. Not over the top but a little like old times.
