But since you're asking why, I think it's because the games were always designed in a neutral, non-exploitative way as to not cheapen her image. The games would play exactly the same if they were starring a male character, it's just that they aren't. Lara's sexuality was a bonus, not the central axis of the franchise like many female-led video games.
