For example Oprah Winfrey is considered american icon yet she is completely unknown in the rest of the world.
Most American NFL athletes are also uknown or not popular. Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift etc.
Oprah, is NOT unknown in the rest of the world at ALL.
Among people who are aware of American culture (which is really widespread around the world), sure. Among the masses? Not at all. A lot of it is a language barrier thing. People would rather watch the same kind of talk shows in their own language, since most people don't speak English.
