This is what I don't get, inspired by the other thread and the ongoing confusion about sexual orientation and identity.

Gay, Bi, Les, A, Pan are sexual orientation.

Is trans a sexual orientation? Shouldn't it be grouped with Cis? It would be a lot less confusing.

A person can be trans and be gay, bi whatever. You can't be gay bi asexual at the same time.

I do agree to an extent, actually. Not because I don't take trans issues seriously, but because the opposite. I feel like they face a lot of discrimination, but end to be overshadowed by the LGB part of LGBT. I feel like they face very different kinds of discrimination, and I feel like Trans discrimination gets a lot less attention due to grouping. Especially since I do think gender identity is very different than sexual orientation

Basically I kinda feel like they should have their own lane so they get more attention like they deserve

Considering "transgender" is not a sexual orientation, I've honestly never quite understood it either. I think society just lumps gender/sexuality related things together. There's always been those societal associations between your gender identity and presumably what your sexuality is, and vice versa.

Maybe it doesn't make sense now days, but when gay rights started to grow and get noticed (Like so many decades ago), everyone who was sexually oppressed was included in the fight for rights. I think is ok for the Transgender crowd to do things on their own these days though.

I agree, makes no sense.

In theory, the T doesn't fit in with the others because one is in reference to gender identity while the others are in reference to sexuality.

But they are all considered one because at the end of they're all under the umbrella of queer and face lots of struggles and you know, the whole "stronger together" thing is pretty true. Trans people may face different struggles but they are also opposed by bigoted, religious, and/or ignorant people, just as LGBAP people are.

Did you actually read the posts in this thread before jumping to this conclusion?

Personally, I think all of the letters should branch off into factions and fight for who is the most oppressed, rather than include anyone who faces similar struggles to advance all of our movements. It's clearly the more logical path.

This is how I feel as well. They shouldn't be grouped with LGB. It's literally its own thing. Natural born cisgender people and transgender.

I remember when I was younger, I always thought that trans people are just ultra gay to the point that they need to change their sex because of the fact they are attracted to the same sex.

As we all know that is not the case. They still have their own sexual orientation on top of the trans thing.

But Trans is gender, right? Transgender, where as Gay, Lesbian, and Bi is sexual orientation.
