Helen Mirren: Men Shouldn't Put Arm Around Women's Shoulders
Quote:
The 70-year-old who made her career in TV series Prime Suspect said: “It annoys me when I see men with an arm slung round their girlfriend’s shoulders. It’s like ownership.
“Of course, when you’re young, you want the guy to take your hand and look after you.
“But when I see girls being leaned on, I want to say, ‘Tell him to get his damned arm off your shoulder’.”
The outspoken star added: “Women are still toddlers in this modern world, trying to find their position in the age of sexual liberation, birth control, education and financial independence. We’re still finding our path.”
I see her point but at the same time some females love when guys take charge in a relationship and express it openly. It should still be a question of choice.
I think it's more problematic when a man's body language is having their hand on their girlfriend/wife's neck, but mainly because how in God's name can that be comfortable?

Agreed. Feminism about letting women have the choice so she really needs to sit.
I get her point. It IS a Relic of old times. I don't think it's bad per se but it represents women being objectified.
It's like women taking the man's name after the wedding. Why? Why not the other way around? Why not keep your name? Good thing that that's changing slowly.
Men can show their affection in many ways. There probably still are women who feel it shows affection when a jealous man doesn't let them leave the house.
