After the Janet Jackson thread turned into a religious argument, I felt this was the perfect opportunity to see people's view on the idea of Islam. One thing I think people seem to be getting wrong is that it is the religious extremists that cause terror attacks. The few Muslims I happen to be friends with are some of the nicest and most generous people I've ever met. I'm not against the religion but I often question some of their commandments. The one that talks about stoning LGBT people to death (I'm not sure if it's the exact word) but despite that, I still respect people's decision to be Muslim.

What are your thoughts?

Yes, as I'm against all religions, not just Islam in particular. I guess more specifically, I'm against the politicization(?) of religions; feel free to practice them privately, but as soon as you try to bring them into my life (via government) we have a problem.

I get why people are against it but I'm not for it and I'm not against it, just another religion.

We as humans have the right to believe. It's what makes us human, and the most intelligent and powerful species on Earth.

Honestly, this. I would never tell someone they can't practice Islam if that's what they believe in/choose to do, nor do I think all Muslims are terrorists. But I do believe that specific religion itself supports a lot of very problematic, discriminatory, backwards beliefs. That doesn't mean every single Muslim supports or follows all those beliefs, just that the religion they're drawing from does.

Catholics are very non-discriminatory, even against gays (I went to Catholic school for years) They DO teach that homosexuality is wrong, but they also teach young Catholics that it is not their place to judge the sins of others, that LGBT people are still human beings who deserve love and respect, and that you should never treat an LGBT person any differently than a regular person. I disagree with their beliefs, but I really don't take much issue with them seeing as they don't promote hate/homophobia.
