Absolutely. There is no reason why a person has to suffer a lot of pain if they know their illness will kill them in near future. Not only the person is feeling horrible but also the family and friends who will feel helpless because they can't really do anything. In such a situation you should have the right to decide for yourself.

When it comes to incurable diseases that are only going to end up killing you anyway, yes. When it comes to mental illnesses, NO. I suffered with depression myself when I was younger and thought of suicide, but now that I'm older and have taken care of my mental issues I realize I don't want that. When you have a mental illness you're not in your right mind, so people trying to force you to keep living is the right thing to do in that situation. Speaking from personal experience.

It should always be dissuaded and the person in question should be shown the benefits of living, but ultimately everyone has a right to end their lives. Particularly if they have a terminal illness.
