Is it so difficult to treat EVERYONE the same way?

Were white people used as slaves and were derogatory words used against whites to make them feel like trash? NAH so have SEVERAL SEATS. I guess u just can't accept that you shouldn't use the term.

White people are and have been allowed to do 283844848 things that black people couldnt and cant since the beginning of time. We have the privelage because its OUR word because of the opression we faced behind it that YOU did not. Stop trying to compare incomparable situations. Yes we can say it. No you can not. Yes that would be discrimination. Deal with it

If some people would dislike it then oh well. I mean you don't see the older generation going up in arms against Beyoncé, Drake, Jay-Z or Kendrick Lamar for using the n-word even though there would be some eye-rolling going on from ALL generation. Besides not the entire older generation disagree with the word, some actually use it themselves (I can hear my grandpa ranting about the "-er problems" and "white people").

this is a very interesting point
i feel like studies should be done because it's something i've observed as well
and that grandpa bit got me too...is your family from America or are they from somewhere else???

How am I the racist when you're the one who thinks some races should get special treatment?

Even though the history of how black people were treated is horrible, we're in a different age now compared to then. Your stupid "eye for an eye" attitude is not only childish but is also making the situation worse as it causes segregation
The fact that I get called a racist for saying that everyone should be treated the same way is ridiculous. But it's that's ATRL logic for you right there I guess

Black people were called ******s by white folk for literally hundreds of years. We actually have a right to use it now given the fact that the white man is the one who gave it such a negative connatation. I think we've earned the right to exclusively use the word. You really have no business ever using the n word and the fact that you're fighting to use it is thoroughly disturbing.

Yea, he's like in his late-60s and lived in the Midwest all his life. My grandma is from Alabama but she never cared about the word. It seems oddly common for people raised near my grandpa's old hometown. It's weird but it could be why some of the younger generation feel free to use it. People may reference self-hate but in reality for some black people it's self-acknowledge of who you are and where you came from.
And we also need to consider why people say or dislike bad words in the first place. There's a sense of more weight to it for many people.

I can't at you guys attacking me and calling me a racist when you haven't even bothered to read what I've said
I would NEVER use the n-word because I know the history behind it. The only arguments you have for using it are vindictive, which says enough about the quality of your argument.
Everyone should be treated the same way, no matter age, skin colour, gender, sexuality or history

Honestly, it doesn't matter what anyone on here thinks or says.
If white people want to say it, they can. If they don't, then that's fine as well.
If black people want to call white people crackers, they can. If they don't, then its fine as well.
We have a lovely thing called freedom of speech. Everyone is exposed to the word, it's not shocking nor surprisingly that all races use it.
You can't pick and choose who says what. It's not your place.

Good. Let start with education, jailng, economical situations, racism, police brutality, cultural appropriation, etc. And then we can start worrying about people being allowed to say a single word.

Don't put words in my mouth. And the fact of the matter is, some people have the right to say and do certain things exclusive to their own group. It's just the way things work.

If it's insulting and/or discriminatory it's definitely ones place to call out people who use certain words

This is problematic. Yes, clearly this is true, but damn be the better person. This doesn't promote equality it promotes intolerance.

I know about the problems you just brought up, but why does that mean that "worrying about people being allowed to say a single word" has to be put on hold? Everyone has to work together, and the vindictive attitude in this thread is very disheartening

Freedom of speech does not excuse one from using racial slurs. Paula Deen surely wasn't forgiven because of freedom of speech; she was fired because common sense dictates that some words should not be used if they are demeaning to another race; espescially when historically that same slur was used to belittle black people. You're just fishing for an argument so stop.

That's not how freedom of speech works dear.
Technically anyone can do anything they want that doesn't mean they should.
Mess at you trying to compare thw two. Cracker is not a derogatory term with negative connotations. Do you even know the history of the word?
Exactly it's not your place to tell black people what they can or can't do with their word that they choose to use. It has nothing to do with you.

It's completely fine.
Black people can't expect to have a song filled with the N-Word and be surprised when Non-Black people say it when singing the song, that's ridiculous.
