Some of ya are not realizing the issue, many illegals are crossing the boarder to have kids so that they as a "family" can claim American Citizenship some are even crossing the boarder pregnant. I agree with Trump "they gots to go" What's the point of granting "the baby" citizenship if the parents are undocumented illegals and have to be sent back if they go back so does the child unless the parents give them up for adoption
Those people are having kids because, well they are people like everyone else and want to form families, they just don't use them as tools to stay here. I am pretty sure they can't just claim citizenship just because they have a child that was born here, it doesn't work that way
I don't get why America is so bothered by immigration like... Unless you're Native American you don't really have the right to be annoyed
They are bothered because 'republicans' will use everything in their will power to **** up this country into big ass pieces. Donald's motto is: "Let's make America great again..." Even tho it isn't, it's making the country worse.

And do you realize that many people are crossing the border (which can be incredibly dangerous) and looking for a better life because of socioeconomic and security concerns caused by the American government? When the CIA stops funding the cartels and creating the circumstances for the war on drugs that kills so many Mexicans, when the US offers reparations for the decades of economic catastrophe the coups they engineered in Central American countries caused (that are causing people to leave the area), then you can say they should think twice about going to the States. People like you, ignorant and with no empathy, terrify me. These are human beings looking for a better future, not just numbers or people looking to annoy you. And how dare you quote Trump He's a huge bigot.
Birthright citizenship is only confined to the Americas.
I'm British, and just by being born on British soil does not make you a citizen of the UK or eligible for British passports. One parent must also be a British citizen as well. I think this law is fair, so I don't see a problem with the United States doing this too.

The US in its current form was built on immigration, most European countries weren't, or at least not to the same extent.
It's hypocritical for the US to ask for babies born in the country to have legally arrived parents to grant them citizenship. It isn't hypocritical when the U.K, France or Germany do it.
What if one parent is a US Citizen and the other parent is illegal?
The illegal would have to marry The American to be granted citizenship, its not a over night process they have to married 6 months, this is very common

The UK is not a country founded on immigration, it's a completely different context.

Interesting point, hadn't thought of it like that.
I guess the idea of citizenship based on where your mother gave birth to you is a bit alien to me.
Gals, its time to open your eyes and realise that borders are just a figment of our imagination there's no such thing as an illegal immigrant, we're all human beans on this planet
And so many Americans forget that the majority of the States used to be a Spanish colony, and later Mexico, (where do you think the names "Florida", "Los Angeles", "San Francisco", "Las Vegas" come from?) and that there are many ethnically Latin, Spanish-speaking families who have lived there for centuries. It's why ignorant people saying "speak English, we're in the USA!" infuriates me, they don't understand that Spanish is as much a part of American history as English.
They will never recognize it (and much less embrace it). In their ignorant puny brains Murica was built by "Europeans only" based on some supposed God given right. These are the same kind of people who vehemently oppose the existence of African-American Studies and Latino Studies at schools and universities.
All of this talk from the despicable Walker and other politicians is no more than cheap rhetoric appealing to the angry, intellectually challenged, nationalistic segment of American society. As it is we've already seen a couple of replies in this thread supporting his proposal. Imagine what other people with actual influence out there would do if this was an actual political possibility.

So lemme sleep in your house then and eat your food. We're all just humans.
American people are really bothered by the immigrants. Aren't they almost half of the US population though? If they can work and provide their families a stable life there plus safety, let them be there. I assume the majority pay their taxes and more. And not some acting like they were 100% Americans.

Do you realize that its very difficult to charge a undocumented illegal with a crime like rape or murder half of the time they get sent back to their homeland how is that justice for the American victim and they get flown back under Taxpayer money. You can follow the let's hate on Trump bandwagon but he is right "They got's to go"

This.
Like, I get that lots of illegal immigrants leave their countries bc they want a better life and everything. But coming to the US just to give birth and claim US citizenship for your child so you can become a citizen too is just wrong. When I lived in Brownsville, TX (basically the border), lots of mexicans (not illegal tho, like, people with visa) crossed to Brownsville to give birth and get a US citizenship for their child. They had to pay some fee tho. I think that's way better than just illegally cross the border and give birth lol.
Let's talk about if the bigots get their way, and deports everyone who isn't a citizen? Then who will do the low paying jobs "legal Americans" don't want to do?
Quote:
Immigrant labor force participation is consistently higher than native-born, and immigrant workers make up a larger share of the U.S. labor force (12.4%) than they do the U.S. population (11.5%).
Quote:
The largest wave of immigration to the U.S. since the early 1900s coincided with our lowest national unemployment rate and fastest economic growth. Immigrant entrepreneurs create jobs for U.S. and foreign workers, and foreign-born students allow many U.S. graduate programs to keep their doors open. While there has been no comprehensive study done of immigrant-owned businesses, we have countless examples: in Silicon Valley, companies begun by Chinese and Indian immigrants generated more than $19.5 billion in sales and nearly 73,000 jobs in 2000.
Quote:
During the 1990s, half of all new workers were foreign-born, filling gaps left by native-born workers in both the high- and low-skill ends of the spectrum. Immigrants fill jobs in key sectors, start their own businesses, and contribute to a thriving economy. The net benefit of immigration to the U.S. is nearly $10 billion annually. As Alan Greenspan points out, 70% of immigrants arrive in prime working age. That means we haven't spent a penny on their education, yet they are transplanted into our workforce and will contribute $500 billion toward our social security system over the next 20 years.
