Following personal research on literature by black LGBT persons, I stumbled upon the phenomenal author James Baldwin, who was a prominent voice and activist on racial equality and rights of the LGBT community.
To those not familiar with him, he's author to the book, "Go Tell It On The Mountain" an incredible book enlisted as one of the best books of all time by TIME magazine.
Anyway, Mr. Baldwin was a prominent figure in the civil rights movement and was friends with even Martin Luther Junior but was later distanced by the latter along with Bayard Rustin due to their sexual orientation and misguided advice given to Mr.Luther.
His work however I noticed (since I hadn't heard of him until almost a year ago) went untold even by his community as well as other black civil rights activists who were gay or lesbian like Bayard Rustin and Lorraine Hansberry which I find disheartening because these are people who were neglected and pushed aside and outcasted by a community they were a part of and fought for yet even now they are hardly mentioned (I do realize Bayard got a medal of honor for his work) even by the black community.

The question is whether the black community itself acknowledges these LGBT icons and not about a movie.

I watched the Baldwin/Buckley debates in a Black Politics course. First time ever hearing about James was in that class. Crazy.

They acknowledge people like James and Lorraine. People in our community recognize them for their contributions to literature. Those two definitely aren't forgotten.

I think that they are definitely people who recognize them, I was surprised when I found out P.Diddy was involved in a Lorraine play once but when I wanted a biopic for all three of them I couldn't find a single one

Plus I had never heard them discussed even with regard to the civil rights movement and I have watched a lot of movies and read tonnes of articles concerning that so I was definitely surprised to find about their involvement.
