The star Kentucky basketball player who was forcibly outed and chased by rowdy members of an opposing team last December claims he was later omitted from his team’s page in the yearbook because school administration is embarrassed to have an openly gay athlete.
Betsy Layne High School senior Dalton Maldonado detailed his emotional and frightening coming out experience in an April interview with Outsports.
In the interview, Maldonado claimed he didn’t ever want to come out to his teammates because he wasn’t interested in dealing with the potential negative reaction. After a member of an opposing team yelled post-game, “Hey No. 3, I hear you’re a ******,” Maldonado suddenly had no choice.

The media coverage that ensued apparently outraged school officials, who aren’t on board with Maldonado’s openness.
