What is "White Privilege," and does it really exist?
Hi, I'm just wondering what white privilege actually is. To me when I hear the term, I automatically think of straight white men who went to good colleges and received great grades, and are now working dream jobs on Wall Streer. As opposed to minorities and women who struggle to accomplish the same life but have the same background.
Is this what white privilege is? Does it only appeal to straight white men or women as well? Does it go beyond the workforce? Do you have to go to college and work hard in order to have it?
White privilege is not being scared of the police
White privilege is when you go to any store, you know you won't be followed.
White privilege is not having to give your children pep talks about how to deal with authority figures because more likely than not they want to kill you.
White Privilege = a term for societal privileges that benefit white people in Western countries beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances....
For the dumb people: White people have it easier then you in life(most of the time),cuz of their Skin Color/heritage

When you're white, everything you do is unique, and original, and cool, and everything you touch turns to gold. White Privilege is hardly making an effort and still getting praise and recognition for it, EVERYTHING is handed to you on a silver platter.
When you're a minority, everything that I mentioned above for whites is the COMPLETE opposite for you. And you have you have to work TWICE as hard to get HALF the praise and recognition from everybody.

I work in an industry where no one cares what you look like or where you're from, people want to see your work and portfolio. Nothing was handed to me (or my parents, who worked their asses off). We're not all born into big Beverly Hills houses.

I can't tell you how many times I was denied from getting a simple job for high school kids just because I'm not white
also, this leads to white people tend to have higher income and be in the higher social classes. For example, just look at all the hunters in Africa, they're all white. and white people in higher classes will keep white privilege going. it's an endless circle - and only the minorities can feel and see how terrible it is.
White men and white women have their privllege, and sexuality does not matter either. White feminists and feminists tackle different type of issues. White women don't face the same consequences black women do. That is not saying they aren't working towards a common [broader] goal, but a white woman's privllege enables her to see her plight as a feminist completely different to the one of a POC.
White privilege does not mean that white people live lavish and luxurious lives. You can be poor and live a hard life while being white. For example, I have this white friend who was born into a pretty good and wealthy family. However he insists on dressing like a 'wigger' and gets followed around in stores time to time. I told him all he had to do was change his clothes, but when you're a person of color it doesn't matter how you dress or talk..you will always be black!
Just apply that to everything and that's WP - or a part of it.

I was saying Naoki made it seem like white people get everything handed to them with absolutely no effort. I'm well aware of what white privilege is and its benefits. I never said it doesn't exist. It sure as hell does. But saying nonsense like 'being handed everything on a silver platter' is just dumb. That's all there was to my post. Don't make it seem like something it was not.
