Lesson #1: "Know What You Are & What You Stand For"
- Many people declare themselves "stans" without knowing the proper meaning and origin of the word. The term "stan" derives from the Eminem song, "Stan," in which a deranged super fan (or STAN) writes to Eminem daily. Without getting to far into the song, when STAN doesn't receive a letter in return, he commits suicide.
The term stan does not necessarily mean that you are standing by with a knife in hand, ready to slice your wrist open at any given second (though it can). It's more of a term that just means you are crazy for a particular artist. Stans are usually the fans who spend $500 - $1,000 dollars on Meet & Greet concert tickets, even though their car will be repossessed next week if their is no payment made. In other words, a person doesn't become a stan buy merely buy an album. A person becomes a stan when they spend countless hours online debating the greatness of their artist; when they know the lyrics to all the songs on an artists album months before it is released... things like that. So know when and when not to use the term.
Lesson #2: "Know The Facts About Your Artist"
- Being a stan, you will always feel the need to defend your artist when attacked by a hater. It is of the utmost importance they you know all of your facts and make sure that they are proven with receipts to show anyone in disbelief. Nothing is worse then defending an artist with a lot of facts and figures you pulled off of some random blog, only to get dismissed by someone who pulls out some official facts and figures from a more credible source. Your best bet would be to use official sites and not blogs or gossip sites.
Lesson #3: "Keep It Cute"
- Nothing's more unattractive then a person who resorts to name calling before they have properly claimed a stan battle in their name. You don't want to insult someone before you have sealed the deal because if you slip up, make a mistake or don't have your facts right, they will READ YOU UP AND DOWN, GET YOU RIGHT TOGETHER & DISMISS YOU TO THE GODS. (In other words; they will talk really bad about you, correct your faulty facts and then let everyone know how they have humiliated you.)
Also, you don't want to be too messy. The more respect you show a person who you are opposing, the less likely they are to disrespect your artists around you again... Yes, telling someone to "get your baby carrot d*ck havin' ass the f*ck out of my face tryin' to step to me talkin' about Britney Spears ugly while Beyonce looks like a lion haired tranny!" is funny, simply saying "That Is All" or "You Are Dismissed" is just as effective and 3x as respectful. (No shade @ Beyonce. It was just an example)
Lesson #4: "Know When You Lose"
- This lesson speaks for itself. Know when to back down. Even though you may still feel a certain way about your artist, if you keep trying to defend them a stan you are opposing has already got you and your artist together (in other words, you lost) they will continue to drag you all over the internet until you give in (in other words, they will continue to embarrass you in front of anyone who clicks the link to that page and possibly spread the word).
Lesson #5: "Stans To Watch Out For"
- Now some stans are naturally stronger than others. Sometimes, stans have been stanning for their artist for years. Other times, stans come with their friends and they will laugh at you while they humiliate you. The most notorious group of stans on the internet are the people who stan for Beyonce, or the Suga Mamas. The praise Beyonce as their Lord: Beys*s Chri*t-Carter. Since Beyonce has accomplished so much and never sits down (in order to gain more accomplishments) it's nearly impossible to compare any artist to Beyonce. (Their are a few, but I will not state them here in order to keep peace between all stans reading this). okaay okaay
Another vicious group of stans are the stans of Britney Spears, or the Britt*rds. They worship Briho** Je*nsus Spears. The thing about Britney stans is that they have been dragged for years so they already know anything you could possibly say about Britney, so they are ready to hit you back ten times harder then you could ever imagine. Brintey stans are often youtube link ready.
And last.... The Madonna stans or the Voguers. They know Madonna is old as hell but they also know she has sold more than every other female artist and are not afraid to let you know it.... They barely roam around open forums but when you find them just know a debate is coming.
A short list of other stans to watch out for: Rihanna stans, Chris Brown stans, Christina Aguilera stans & Janet Jackson stans.
Hopefully, you all have learned something tonight. Their will be lessons in the future, such a "How To Properly READ Someone Who Disrespects Your Artist," "How To Drag an Opposing Stan Who Won't Back Down" and my favorite "Stan Names, Know Em and Love Em.... but you will have to wait for those.
