Why is it sadder when animals die in movies than humans?
For example, I am watching I Am Legend right now and it just got to the part where Will Smith is forced to kill his dog after it was attacked by mutants and I was all but when watching a horror movie, for instance, IDGAF when a character dies. Are you like that? Why do you think that is?

I think it's partly because dogs are voiceless and unable to actually express themselves. All that we see are the pathetic puppy dog eyes and sad whimpers and our hearts break knowing that there is no tangible sense of understanding or closure.

Basically.
Whenever I watch a horror movie and I see a dog or a cat in it, the only thing that crosses my mind throughout the entire movie is if the pet is going to die. I get so worried.
