Let's compare the numbers:
Sales (divide by 10): See You Again sold 285,000 downloads last week (-10%); Trap Queen sold 106,000 (-1%).
28,500 points vs 10,600 points.
Streaming (divide by 750): See You Again had 24 million streams last week (=); Trap Queen had 17.5 million (+1%)
SYA 32,000 points vs TQ 23,333 points
Airplay (divide by 10,000): See You Again received 102 million impressions (+38%/Airplay Gainer); Trap Queen received 64 million (+7%) 10,200 points versus 6,400 points
Total points: See You Again 28,500+32,000+10,200= 70,700;
Trap Queen 10,600+23,333+6,400= 40,333
As you can see, there is a HUGE difference in points between the songs. I have SYA with an 75.3% point lead over TQ. The only metric TQ is somewhat competitive with SYA is Streaming, but even there the gap is large. SYA will be performed at the BBMAs too. While nothing is 100% impossible, TQ's chances of taking over #1 next week are extremely slim.

MTE. I'm all here for rap making a top 10 comeback again, but not with crappy Vine hits like this! Then the fact that this song is actually in the digital sales top 5 is absolutely baffling to me...
Hopefully a better rap track near the top 10 can replace it next week
At least Trap Queen is rightfully slaying. Never thought it would ever crack the top 3, let alone #2!

Cool. I swear the name T-Wayne was originally supposed to be T-Pain and Lil' Wayne joining forces. (circa 2008. "Can't Believe It" is still a bop.)

Sis, everytime I see that name, I go running because that's the first thing I think of
Still waiting for that album tho because Can't Believe It is still that bop

Thanks!
Okay Ger-55 corrected me on the streaming portion of the formula. I divide by 750, not 1,300.
1) See You Again: 70,700
2) Trap Queen 40,333
3) Uptown Funk 38,367
See You Again leads Trap Queen by 75.3%, while Trap Queen only leads Uptown Funk by 5.1%.
Airplay points 12,300
Sales points 9,000
Streaming points 17,067
Total 38,367

It's probably a good thing that 1989's sales are slowing down a bit. After the Bad Blood remix she can put it up for streaming and it'll probably help later singles.

BTW, using the formula I think we have been for making predictions, these are the point totals I come up with given the metric numbers Billboard provided:
1) See You Again: 57,162
2) Trap Queen 30,462
3) Uptown Funk 31,146
I divided sales by 10, airplay by 10,000, and streaming by 1,300. So I still have UF at #2 and TQ at #3. What did I do wrong? That's why I was so persistent about keeping UF at #2, because I still show it has a lead of 2.2% over TQ, within the less than 3% margin I mentioned last night. I did something wrong, but I'm not sure what.
Airplay points 12,300
Sales points 9,000
Streaming points 9,846
Total 31,146
|
Dividing streaming by 1,300 is too much. It actually weights more. I'm thinking why are you using that formula of dividing by 1,300. Why 1,300? You should devide it (if we're close enough to a reliable formula) by 750 in any case

If BB provides us with real numbers this week for "See You Again", the formula "1k Sales = 1M Airplay = 75k Streams" is not working SO well..
BB said SYA's Airplay accounts for 17% of overall points VS. 14% got by the known formula
That means Airplay weights more, don't know how much more...

Thanks for the help! Let me try again! Also, 7 is directly above 4 on the keypad, so that could be a typo.

Here are the Top Five Songs by points using the Sales / 10 + Streaming / 750 + Airplay / 10,000 formula. The difference between number two and number five is much smaller than the difference between Number One and number two.
#1 See You Again: Sales 28,500 + Streaming 32,000 + Airplay 10,200 = Total 70,700
#2 Trap Queen: Sales 10,600 + Streaming 23,333 +Airplay 6,400 = Total 40,333
#3 Uptown Funk: Sales 9,000 + Streaming 17,067 + Airplay 12,300 = Total 38,367
#4 Earned It: Sales 8,300 + Streaming 12,000 + Airplay 15,500 = Total 35,800
#5 Shut Up And Dance: Sales 13,600 + Streaming 8,133 + Airplay 11,100 = Total 32,833

With that said, streaming and sales are directly influenced by the consumer. The consumer has control over both of these elements and can choose to buy or stream a song. It makes more sense to measure just these two elements instead of throwing a third party that the consumer can't control.

40% Sales, 30% Audio Streaming, 20% Airplay, and 10% Video Streaming seems like the perfect mix to me.

Imo:
45% streaming (including video, I feel like they should all be equal) > 30% radio > 25% sales
Sales are just far too weak nowadays for me to advocate them being any major part of the formula.

Early ass predictions for the T10:
1. See You Again
2. Trap Queen
3. Uptown Funk!
4. Earned It
5. SUAD
6. Want To Want Me
7. Nasty Freestyle
8. Sugar
9. LMLYD
10. Hey Mama
The points for #3-5 are so close in my early predictions. Really UF!, SUAD, and EI could be any of the three. I'm hoping that UF! can get one more week extending its record in the T3 though on its way to setting records in the T10.
