In a recent video by the makers of "Teens react to" no one knew Mariah's record breaking hit which spent 16 weeks #1 on the chart. This begs to the question, if a song made that record why does no one remember it? Does she have a memorable discography?
She even gets compared to Ariana Grande in the video with one teen stating "Ariana Grande vibe from her but I know she wasn't making music in the 90's so I was like OHHH Mariah Carey"
The majority of her discography is memorable. One Sweet Day does not fall into that majority, in my opinion. I still struggle to remember what the song even sounds like, even after all this time.
Edit: Maybe "the majority of her discography" is an overstatement. Lots of her singles are remembered, though!
Anyway... Yeah it was one of her most successful songs but may not be one of her most memorable. However there are other songs people know. I mean people know Touch My Body, Heartbreaker, Obsessed, Hero, All I Want For Christmas Is You, My All, We Belong Together.
Well I'm going to confess I didn't know that song either until a year ago when I got into Mariah a lot. Everyone here in Italy knows AIWFCIY, Hero, Without You, Touch My Body and Obsessed but the rest are pretty much a idk ha especially for the young generation

MARIAH CAREY not iconic she's LEGENDARY gurl. I mean she transcended generations. my parents can tell you who she is so can their friends. my friends know who she is (even though they only know HERO & WE BELONG TOGETHER). a lot of singers wish they were as important as MARIAH.
Lbr one sweet day is only memorably to people that were around back then. They don't really play it on the radio these days.
Now if they were to play WBT. shake it off,beautiful,don't forget about us, obsessed, touch my body or even heartbreaker, teens would probably know it.
