Misconceptions about Latinamerica. Is really a mess?
I don't know about you guys, but when you ask people from Europe or the States (mostly them) about Latinamerica, they think that we live in the jungle surrounded by exotic animals and basically, they think that everything here is a mess. #LIKEME
This happens because of ignorance and part of it, it's not just their fault. For example, some Hollywood movies sell the idea that here is a land without law, full of corruption, extremely poor, mostly religious, with a tropical weather everywhere, etc.
Just look at this , a representation of my city, by Hollywood :
And how it really is :
I mean seriously?, they expend so much money to create that piece of crap?
Don't be fooled by the media huntys. Latinamerica is so varied. There's so much to see here.
Atheism is growing all the time in some countries. They only baptize their children but hardly go to Church after that In Mexico my family only went to please Grandma
I don't think South America is a mess in general. Maybe some countries like Venezuela I heard is pretty messy.
My partner is from Brazil and I visited Brazil twice once in 2008 and then in 2011. I could really see the difference. The country is booming and people are getting richer.Things are not perfect but I think the area is defo on the up.

Inflation in Venezuela is out of control. There are long lines for things like toilet paper and groceries. They are also strict about how many times someone can go get something. The government really let the people down
When you ask me about Latin America what first comes to my mind is modern architecture, drug lords, beautiful people, large cities, high crime rates, artsy, Christian people, has good style.. a bit like a thuggier version of Europe.. in a good sense. but I like ittt
I was just watching a documentary a man travelling around the Caribbean including Venezuela and Colombia. It showed both good and bad sides to the countries they visited, but I must say from what they shown of Venezuela it looked really bad. I mean they were living in a tower block that was not complete due to corruption or whatever and it looked really dangerous but they had computers and tvs??
You mean you don't have crosses and saints all over the house
Europe is messy but not that messy.
Did you see the video?
MESS
And let me put things clear. I'm not saying that everyone has misconceptions of Latinamerica, ok? but the media and some comments of people gave me the impression that some people think that way (the examples that I said before)
Maybe that was an example (jungle) just applicable to the U.S. , but some Europeans get surprised when they see that not every country here is poor, corrupted or it has high levels of violence.
I dont know much about Latin America other than Uruguay but its definitely a continent I would like to visit soon. It looks so beautiful and there are countries that look like paradise
I'm glad that you made this thread. I'm actually planning to be a Spanish major, and my family was very specific on not letting me study in Mexico/Latin America. They insist that I study in Spain because it's safer.

That's what I'm talking about. Mexico has a violence problem, that's true, but not the whole country has those problems and neither Latin America. My country it's very safe, for example.

One is that no one in Latin America knows, listens to, or cares about certain genres, like R&B.
It never went popular here.
At least in my country, there's a really low percentage of black people (Like 0.01). We are a mix between Europeans and Native Americans. That genre was born in the african-american culture, so in my country at least, there are no people who can be an exponent of that type of music and make it popular. :/
