So I stumbled on this thread yesterday and read an interesting post:

I started thinking on this topic.

Europe has population of only 750,000,000.
Asia's population is over 4,150,000,000.
Therefor Asia is 5,5 times bigger than Europe.

Yet I realized I don't know almost any Asians who have ever lived.

I know who is the prime minister of Lithuania, but I have no idea who is the president of China - the biggest country in the world.
I know who was Italy's prime minister during II WW, but I have no clue who was Japan's leader.
I don't know who is president of India or emperor of Japan.

I coudn't name a single Asian scientist... who have EVER lived.
I can't name a single Asian artist... painter? no. architect? nope. sculptor? no idea. classic musician? not a clue
I don't know any contemporary Asian singers, actors or book writers.

I was searching in my memory for over a half hour and the only Asians I have ever known are:

That's because you're a Westerner. I am just as ignorant about Asians because I don't live in that part of the world.

Edit: Never heard of Mao Zedong? Genghis Khan? Gandhi?

I took a global history class and like 90% was about European history.. like we learn enough about white peoples history what about the rest of the world.

I am an Asian and trust me, almost nowadays asian teenagers don´t care about their history and traditional culture either. They´re charmed too much by modern western culture

Asia is extremely relevant, we wouldn't have what we have now if it wasn't for Middle East and the Chinese. As much as we want to deny it.
I'm Eurocentric but that is because I live in Europe. And even we are taught more about Asia than the US, or at least that's my conclusion after seeing your list. So limited.
America has no excuse, it is a country that is based on immigrants and it should treat all its citizens equally and that includes teaching them their own history. Utopia, I know, but nevertheless that's how it should be.

That's because Europeans have been dominating in all aspects for the last 500 years .

It works both ways. A lot of people born and raised in Asia are ignorant to most of our cultural and historical icons. Most of it comes down to the fact that, for the most part, we aren't educated on their history in the same way we're educated on our own in schools but that's for obvious reasons I guess.

Girl America and Europe are the same in the way that they have the same culture, religion, values, people (70% or even more of America are from European descent), technology etc.

popular to westerners bc it's the most accessible of them, the Kpop numbers are not better than Jpop numbers. And it's not like JPop tries to be popular.

If you're from the West, you're obviously going to know more about that side of the world than the other naturally.

Just because something isnt very relevant to Western life doesnt mean its irrelevant to the world as a whole... so much closemindedness

But tbh, I am an Asian myself so Asia is more relevant to me than anything else. So it just depends on where u live. ASIA its culture and history are THICK !
