Wild horses in Alberta, Canada to be captured, slaughtered
Quote:
The province has rounded up nearly half of the 50 feral horses from the Ghost region it plans to capture to manage the growth of Alberta’s wild horse population.
Meanwhile, a group of advocates arguing against the roundup has planned a rally outside the McDougall Centre in Calgary for Friday afternoon.
Earlier this month, the government announced it had approved the capture of 50 feral horses. The horses, mostly young males, will first be offered to the Wild Horses of Alberta Society (WHOAS), which will try to adopt them out. The remaining animals that aren’t adopted would be put up for auction.
“This is going to be extremely hard and heartbreaking as we are limited by finances and resources into how many animals we can take in,” he wrote. “We wish we could save them all however in reality this is not possible at this time.”
So heartbreaking! People need to adopt them so they don't get killed. It always makes me sad knowing that animals that don't get adopted end up getting killed. Really wish more people would save them. It bothers me so much. Trusting the people of that organization to save as many as possible.
Why don't they just you know 'snip' the male horses and release them back so they can live their lives without adding to the herd? I can see if they were finding dead horses because the herd can't sustain the size due to lack of food but that does not seem to be the case here.
Why auction them off just offer them free to anyone willing to pay to get them and transport them?
“I’m concerned the culls are going to continue,” he said. “What we were striving for was to have the ability to use alternative measures other than auction and slaughter.” http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-...nts-plan-rally
