Yeah, I get why you would be disappointed after looking for something similar to Twin Peaks. I've never gotten the comparisons between the two shows, other than having David Duchovny in them. Both are weird, but different types of weird.
As for TXF, I've always preferred the standalone episodes to the ones having to do with the overarching mythology plot - that whole thing just turned into a MESS, and it's best just to ignore it because it never goes anywhere satisfying IMO.
Good eps are: Small Potatoes, Home, Bad Blood, Humbug, Never Again, Leonard Betts, and Roadrunners (one of the few great episodes after DD's exit from the show). There's more, but those are my faves.
