"I had a big huge fight this year trying to get Beyoncé to be acknowledged as Urban Contemporary," says Tricky Stewart, who produced Rihanna's "Umbrella" and Beyoncé's I Am…Sasha Fierce, and has a role in the Grammy selection process. "They told me that it was a pop song. 'Drunk in Love' is not a pop song. It wasn't intended to be 'I Kissed a Girl.' It became popular, and there's a difference."
Pharrell won it because maybe voters think that Bey was gonna win AOTY so it would be his consolation prize. Thats my take from it. Or maybe Beyonce doesn't have as much grammy clout as we perceive her to have.
She lost because Pharrell's album was seen as better by the academy and received more votes.
Tricky Stewart sounds a damn mess with his reasoning. Happy is more pop than ANYTHING on BEYONCE and he still won.
Which is the point Tricky was making: Beyonce's album was more urban and more deserving. You're so filled with hate that you find it hard to read and comprehend like a human who's been through at least elementary school.
