Oftentimes, "miracles" are caused by a strong mental toughness- you are going to be more likely to recover from cancer if you strongly believe that you will. Relating to the 'mind over matter' adage, this can often cause a placebo effect that you are getting better which can occasionally speed up a recovery.
No. I think we as humans feel comfort in having explanations for everything and use the concept of a miracle to explain a sudden change in events for a situation that would otherwise be bleak.

Yeah, kind of. My 19 year old cat was very sick, she wouldn't even move most of the time, the vet said it might be her time to go soon but I prayed a lot and just sort of believed that it isn't her time yet? idk of that makes sense. It just didn't occur to me that she was going to die then. Well, long story short, my cat got better, it's been almost a year since then and she's eating well, running around, playing, etc.
