activebeast ˇ Best Songs Ever 2014 ˇ #11-15 ˇ Awards #14-15

♫ "I used to run around. I didn't wanna settle down. But now I wake each day, looking for a way that I can see your face." ♫ |
15 ˇ THE VAMPS f/ DEMI LOVATO, "Somebody To You"
Weeks on Chart: 10 Weeks
Peak Position: #03
Debut Date: June 28, 2014
After having a streak of pop rock bops, I was excited to see The Vamps collaborating with one of my favorite pop songstress -- Demi Lovato. Luckily, the collaboration turned out really well. "Somebody To You" is a feel-good cheesy track you'll never resist to love. Out of all the singles released by the group this year, I guess this one is the most refreshing and relaxing. Simple yet remarkable.
2013: MIKA f/ ARIANA GRANDE, "Popular Song"
2012: TAYLOR SWIFT, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"
2011: KELLY CLARKSON, "Mr. Know It All"
2010: ALEXANDRA BURKE, "All Night Long"
2009: A.R. RAHMAN & THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS f/ NICOLE SCHERZINGER, "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)" |

♫ "No we're not going home tonight. Waiting up for the stars to shine. And we'll do it, and we'll do it, and we'll do it again." ♫ |
14 ˇ THE VAMPS, "Last Night"
Weeks on Chart: 7 Weeks
Peak Position: #05
Debut Date: March 15, 2014
And the highest The Vamps entry this year goes to "Last Night"! To be honest, I wasn't really a big fan of the group not until I got hooked into song #15 during the second half of the year. There I realized that their discography was awesome. Probably because of their power pop efforts reminiscent of 1D's initial efforts. And of all those singles, "Last Night" is most likely the closest. I kinda feel bad for the group though. The top 2 The Vamps tracks were originally part of my Top 10.
2013: ARIANA GRANDE f/ NATHAN SYKES, "Almost Is Never Enough"
2012: RITA ORA, "How We Do (Party)"
2011: RIHANNA f/ CALVIN HARRIS, "We Found Love"
2010: PARAMORE, "The Only Exception"
2009: BEYONCÉ, "Halo" |

♫ "It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small. And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all." ♫ |
13 ˇ DEMI LOVATO, "Let It Go"
Weeks on Chart: 11 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 Week)
Debut Date: December 7, 2013
The national anthem of every kid for 2014 lands impressively at #13. Demi had an awesome 2013 when two of her singles went straight to the Top 10. This year, she still did fairly well scoring two Top 20 hits. "Let It Go" was a not a standout when it was released. However, the insistent clamor and appreciation of every Frozen watchers truly helped me love the song. No matter how annoying it is now, the song still deserves a respectable spot on my list. It's truly hard to let go of this amazing single.
2013: JENNIFER LOPEZ f/ PITBULL, "Live It Up"
2012: ONE DIRECTION, "Little Things"
2011: KATY PERRY, "Firework"
2010: KATY PERRY, "Firework"
2009: MILEY CYRUS, "The Climb" |

♫ "I have loved you for many years. Maybe I am just not enough. You've made me realize my deepest fear by lying and tearing us up." ♫ |
12 ˇ SAM SMITH, "I'm Not The Only One"
Weeks on Chart: 8 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 Week)
Debut Date: August 2, 2014
2014's King of Heartbreak makes his fifth appearance (second in the Top 20) on the list with the overly emotional "I'm Not The Only One". This single was released in the midst of my Sam Smith appreciation and it definitely became one of my instant favorites. The soulful take on this heartbreaking track definitely captured everyone's hearts. Sam delivered such perfect vocals coupled with overflowing feelings.
2013: TAYLOR SWIFT, "I Knew You Were Trouble."
2012: KATY PERRY, "The One That Got Away"
2011: KATY PERRY, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"
2010: KE$HA, "We R Who We R"
2009: BEYONCÉ, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" |

♫ "You've been tired of watching me. forgot to have a good time, boy. You can't take it all these faces. Never keeping it real." ♫ |
11 ˇ RITA ORA, "I Will Never Let You Down"
Weeks on Chart: 14 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 Weeks)
Debut Date: April 5, 2014
So close yet so far! Missing the Top 10 by just one spot is the Rita Ora-Calvin Harris collaboration "I Will Never Let You Down". To be honest, I really think this joint effort was a very good one. I've been a follower of Rita's releases and I must say that this one is her best to date. The fusion between eurodance and electronic was very interesting. It really blended well. A simple EDM track that turned out to be the second-biggest from the said genre this 2014.
2013: LORDE, "Royals"
2012: DEMI LOVATO, "Give Your Heart A Break"
2011: MAROON 5 f/ CHRISTINA AGUILERA, "Moves Like Jagger"
2010: MILEY CYRUS, "When I Look At You"
2009: CIARA f/ JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, "Love Sex Magic" |
 |
ARIANA GRANDE
Best Pop Act Ever
It's either you love her or despise her. Having gazillions of entries on my list, she definitely deserves this title.
RUNNER-UP: TAYLOR SWIFT |
 |
JESSIE J, ARIANA GRANDE & NICKI MINAJ, "Bang Bang"
Best Pop Song Ever
This year's winner for Best Collaboration Song Ever snatches another win. With a mix of three different pop dimensions from diverse artists, this win is inevitable.
RUNNER-UP: TAYLOR SWIFT, "Shake It Off" |

activebeast ˇ Best Songs Ever 2014 ˇ #9-10

♫ "Tell me that I'm wrong but I do what I please. Way too many people in the Allison Lane. Now I'm at the age when I know what I need, oh wow." ♫ |
10 ˇ ONE DIRECTION, "Midnight Memories"
Weeks on Chart: 14 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (4 Weeks)
Debut Date: February 1, 2014
It's been the third consecutive year that we've seeing the biggest British boyband within the Top 10. This year, the title track off their third album reigns supreme among their three entries on my list. "Midnight Memories" is probably their last single that showcases the power pop side of the group which is definitely one thing from them I dig for. The track may not be as successful as their previous efforts, but it's still one track that made a remark on me. In fact, it's the song with the most weeks at #1 for 2014. With One Direction making their final vow on the list this year, this means we got a new ruler!
2013: DEMI LOVATO, "Made In The USA"
2012: GOTYE f/ KIMBRA, "Somebody That I Used To Know"
2011: TAYLOR SWIFT, "Back To December"
2010: KATY PERRY, "Teenage Dream"
2009: TAYLOR SWIFT, "White Horse" |

♫ "What's going on in that beautiful mind? I'm on your magic mystery ride and I'm so dizzy. Don't know what hit me. But I'll be alright." ♫ |
09 ˇ JOHN LEGEND, "All Of Me"
Weeks on Chart: 10 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (2 Weeks)
Debut Date: March 8, 2014
The winner for the Best Cheesy Song Ever ranks impressively on my yearend list as it went straight to #9. To be honest, I did not pay attention to "All Of Me" during its release cause I wasn't really into John Legend's music as his style started to change after "Ordinary People". Surprisingly, he went back to the studio and came up with one as worthy as the said classic. "All Of Me" was brilliant. Despite its simplicity, the song showcased such romantic lyrics and pure emotions. Undeniably John's best single to date.
2013: LITTLE MIX f/ MISSY ELLIOTT, "How Ya Doin'"
2012: CHER LLOYD f/ MIKE POSNER, "With Ur Love"
2011: JESSIE J f/ B.O.B., "Price Tag"
2010: ALICIA KEYS, "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart"
2009: TAYLOR SWIFT, "Fifteen" |
