Peaking at No. 2 on the Bilboard Hot 100 the song was a smash when it was released 10 years ago this week (Nov. 16, 2004). It gave Clarkson a bit of edge, and established her as a leading voice in radio pop in the mid-aughts. (Breakaway would go on to have five top 10 singles). The song won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, as well as MTV VMAs for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video. Billboard referred to it as a decade-defining song, writing, "Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" has since become a blueprint for the female power-pop that has blanketed radio since, with Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Pink and others building up resumes featuring comparable hooks and production."
This was true in 2008, but that style of pop hasn't lasted a decade. Guitar pop/rock is pretty much passé, P!nk is still doing it, but Miley and Katy have moved on.

This. Katy hasn't done anything like that since Part of Me (thank god) and Miley hasn't done anything like that since 2010.
