New Jersey is a notorious and controversial state that peaked in the media in the early 2010's with hit shows such as Jersey Shore, Real Housewives of New Jersey, Jerseylicious, and Cake Boss.

For those ATRL members residing outside of the Garden State haze, what are your initial thoughts when you hear about the state? For fellow NJ members, do you love it or hate it?

I've been to Six Flags, been to the airport and drove through it. I think it seems quite nice, not that much different from other places on the East coast. The weather was lovely when I went to.

I will say that it is a lot more ethnically diverse than where I live (I'm from the UK). I saw more black and Hispanic people there than I have anywhere else in my life.

New Jersey is incredibly diverse. My grandparents live in central New Jersey (Middlesex county for any NJ members that know) and their area has the largest Indian American population in the entire country.

Except the farm town where i live in new jersey is literally like 95% white.

Endless suburbia.

I'm from NJ. Love it. We have the best of everything. Easy access to NYC/Philly, The Beach, andThe Best Food. The only reason we're hated is because of Jersey Shore and the cast is all from NY anyway, so I don't get that.

I love the Six Flags there. I haven't been in a little while, though. The accents are horrid, though. I'm in Maryland and a LOT of people from Jersey come her for school. The college I went to, in particular, had a whole bunch of Jersey students. I haven't really spent much time there outside of the Six Flags.

I live in South Jersey and everything is so relaxed. I enjoy the farmlands, the beaches, the boardwalks, the quietness. I can drive right over the bridge into Delaware which isn't far by any means to shop because of the no sales tax. As said before, very easy to get into PA/Philly. I am a bit tired of living here so I want to move to another state.

The people in NJ are so unbelievably rude.

I live on the shore (monmouth county woo!!) and it's everything, really. I go to school in jersey city and have to admit that north and south jersey are a tad cringeworthy in some areas. NJ is like the best state overall tho

Well North Jersey is pretty terrible and tragic. It's close to NY so I see why crime and grime is all over the place.

Don't do it tbh. I always said this, and then I left the NY/NJ area for school and it's like WTF? Where are the diners, the good bagels and pizza, the good beaches? A mess.

Chill, south jersey has camden and is notorious for the KKK groups throughout history.

It's a bad state and I won't travel there.

Besides their generally horrible gun laws their politicians are stupid. They don't allow citizens to use hollow point bullets which is insane, even many police don't use them there, but police everywhere else use them. It would be highly irresponsible not to. You will get fined $1000 per hollow point bullet plus jail time.

Hollow point bullet means it doesn't fly through the target and hit innocent bystanders plus you don't have to shoot the person several times to stop them... they are just idiots.

Only if you're poor though. Newark and Paterson are the pits but I live around Jersey City/Hoboken and it's pretty cool. We have some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline out here in Hudson County. Plus we have a 24/7 trains and tunnels that go directly into Manhattan unlike Staten/Long Long Island

Places like Newark, Camden, Paterson, Irvington, and the likes only make up like 2% of the states population though so...

NJ sucks and so are the people. Rude, obnoxious, quite dirty. I remember one asshole crashed into my car when I was parked in a parking lot about to go to the beach. The asshole then tries to speed off but I got his license plate number and he was arrested
