This brings back so many memories. BEP and Gaga were THE dominant forces of 2009 for sure. Although both acts continued to see success during 2009-2011, I think Gaga gets the slight edge here for her BTW era being more successful than The Beginning.

No, it's all about hybris from BEP - Future Sound (in 'auto-tuned voice) and Lady Gaga - Biggest Star in the Universe, can I have a laugh.
And both fall artistically short after 2011 by the usual Kanye but also by a singer, 17 years old, from New Zealand, who defines the state of art, today.
I know ATRL loves to hate Gaga, but seriously... Gaga had it all over the Black Eyed Peas during those years. She was more than just somebody who had songs on the charts.
As you can see, in terms of search interest for the years 2009-2011, Gaga > BEP
