GaGa had her moment with fashion with her rise and at her peak. As soon as she plummeted on the charts, no one gave two ***** about her fashion statement. It went from "wow, GaGa is making a statement" to "oh, GaGa dong that same old nonsense schtick?"
Meanwhile, Rihanna stays consistently serving as a muse to couture and high fashion designers every year. Wasn't GaGa kicked off the Versace campaign only after a few months? Far from being a fashion Icon when a brand no longer feels that you contribute to its image and opt for a different inspiration to sell their collection.
London with Tom Ford, switched over to Pucci in Milan, and then arrived in Paris at Balmain. During the shows, Vogue’s editors started to call this phenomenon the RiRi ripple, though “tidal wave” might have been more accurate. How, then, could we not make this 26-year-old Bajan global superstar our March cover girl, given that this is our annual Power Issue, where we celebrate those who decisively inform and influence our world?
That Rihanna is such an inspiration to designers this spring speaks volumes about the compelling and original way she puts herself together. For the longest time now, the music world has been without a performer whose regular unveilings of a new look after new look–often relying on upcoming and unknown designers to help realize her vision–left us all waiting for her latest transformation. Madonna was the last one capable of that; Lady Gaga, while a brilliant manipulator of image, has always to my mind been much more concerned with orchestrating stylistic changes that were about making Artistic Statements. Gaga has 2 iconic outfits there. Rihanna has only 1, already forgotten, btw.
I thought the CFDA dress had impact, though that's what the Navy claimed, but yet, no one is talking about it anymore, it didn't make impact on the runaways and it's not in the RR HOF

Thomas Tait, Christopher Kane, Tom Ford, Christian Siriano ALL had sheer shirts or dresses in their latest collection. In fact sheer and laser cut garments were a huge trend amongst Spring 2015 collections. http://www.essence.com/2014/09/07/di...s-spark-trend/

Three months ago, designer Adam Selman created a dress that will be remembered for decades to come: the sheer crystal-encrusted gown that Rihanna wore to accept her CFDA Fashion Icon Award. Known for that daring high-wattage glamour—the look caused a #nipplegate fiasco after all—Selman’s spring 2015 collection showed a different side to the designer. - Vogue

New York Fashion Week is in full swing — and Rihanna is in on the action. She’s been spotted around town, attending shows for Versus Versace, sitting front row at Edun, Altuzarra and, of course, Alexander Wang.
Her influence is being felt beyond the runway, as Wang’s Instagram account also unveiled the first look at the design house’s much anticipated collaboration with H&M as modeled by Rihanna.
Balmain latest collection was inspired by Rih again.
