Why do people like implying that's US Southerners are dumb?

Is it because of the stereotypical drawl and relaxed easy going persona that the media created or do real world facts back up these claims?

Yes, probably something to do with a lot of them being conservatives and conservatives tend to have backwards views on social issues and also a lot of them are religious and religious people believe in god over science and we see how well that works out for them

i dont think theyre considered 'dumb' as much as they are considered backwards in their thinking. and its because while there are certaintly people of all beliefs and affiliations in the south, overall, its still steeped in 'tradition' down there and there is an overall aversion to modern ideas. this doesnt apply to every person, but many southerners are in fact very closeminded.

You can't judge the entire south as a whole because that's dumb, but yes they're seen as backwards and stuck in an out dated mindset.

The South is a very vast region (the most-populated and inclusive in the US) and includes tragic places like Florida and Texas, as well as Washington, D.C., Virginia, etc.

It just depends on where you are in the South, tbh. Oh, and it's typically only white, religious, gun-crazy Southerners who are stereotyped that way.

What OP is talking about is the Southeast. The Southwest is literally the best place to live anywhere on Earth.

I live in San Francisco which has a huge population of people who aren't from California and some of the most intelligent people I met have been from the South.

My mom and her family are from Mississippi and they are trash. Stupid, incarcerated, annoying, ignorant, etc... My mothers homophobia stems from them as well so they will always be the pits in my eyes. My dad's side (from Chicago) will remain richer and more educated, them >. I'm not one to generalize, but the southerners I've encountered are dumb as ****. But not all of them are.

Not necessarily true... I've witnessed minorities behave just like that bolded part

Mississippi is a hot mess. I went to college there for a semester and boy, boy, boy...

The infrastructure is a mess, the state is impoverished (for the most part), and Republicans/Conservatives control the government at just about every level even though it has a minority-majority population.
