This is a mean, dumb, and hateful stereotype.

Some of the nicest, smartest, and loveliest people that I've met are from the South.

There seems to be a specific breed of thought that leads to lots of rampant conservatism in the south - but not "dumbness" per se.

I've actually never been to the south unless you count Florida.

Basically the fact that they're capitalists and support guns is good

They're considered to be well-mannered above anything else. I met the hottest guy from Houston at this gay club in Sydney. He was so muscley and he kept calling me "sir" and saying "yes sir" if I asked him a question, despite the fact that he was 34 and I was only 21. I was swooning so hard.

On the one hand they're thought of as great hosts hence the term Southern Hospitality, but on the other the stereotype is that the hospitality is only reserved for white heterosexuals.

I think the people causing the biggest damage are the big wigs, the politicians who on air say ******* crazy things and a lot of cops that drag down the reputation.

We are considered dumb considering the ignorance involving racial and gay issues. Plus the accent and the "I love Jesus" thing really doesn't help.

Well I live in the south and a large majority of the people here are conservative, religious, close-minded gun freaks. I live in an artsy hippie college town tho so the youth is very open-minded and liberal thankfully.

Except for Michigan/Wisconsin appealing until Kingdom Come all those blue states have gay marriage

I'm from the south and it's all I ever known I never been outside of the South. I know for a fact that they are dumb and evil. They hate everybody and everything. I would rather kill myself than live down here all my life. Death would be a gift for me.

The OP is referring to the Bible Belt and Southeast. This is partly true. That region of the nation makes the national average of almost everything worse.
