AR-15 rifles date back to 1958... it's older that The Beatles, safer and more effective than using a pump shotgun (stray pellets = injured bystanders).

Armored vehicles? So what? They don't have cannons on them, they're just big trucks, so who cares if they are armored? Are you planning to shoot police? One of those armored vehicles recently may have saved the lives of LA officers when a suspect opened fire.

Regular police don't drive these things. They have them out probably because they are using every vehicle. Do you think SWAT teams should roll up in unarmored Crown Vics and without body armor?

Doesn't matter if THESE civilians are armed, others are. Like I said: why does it matter if the vehicle is armored? It makes no difference unless you're planning to shoot at it. It's a big durable truck at a very low price, such a thing is useful to big police departments. Here are some people protecting their stores in Ferguson:

The grenades and caliber of these guns were too much, but I LOVE the armored vehicles and hope they stay. They deter rioters instead of protesters, which was big here thanks to goons coming here and looting stores, attacking protesters, etc. and they just have to be parked somewhere. They're like scarecrows.

In small, local towns like Ferguson, Missouri - hell no.

In large, major, metropolitan cities like Chicago, New York and Los Angeles where terrorist threats from ISIS are a very real possibility, yes. But not the local 911 police departments in those cities. Qualified teams who are trained in how to handle serious situations appropriately. Not just chubby, white, trigger-happy, racist cops.
