All of us have heard at least once that "men who like pop girls are mostly gay" and we are quick to call this "discrimination" because people on forums like ATRL tend to be open-minded and anti-homophobic. However, is this really how we should react, or is actually true, in some sense?

I mean, obviously everybody can listen and like whatever they want and stuff. However, when it comes to pop girl "stans" I think that we should accept that if a guy knows every song and every video and every move of a female singer, then it's most definitely sure that he is gay.

Of course always there is an exception to the rule but in my opinion 99% of males who stan for pop girls are gay. And I'll tell you why I think this.

As humans we have a difference in "who we want to be" and "who we are". We tend to become fans of those individuals who are similar to the person "we want to be". That's why most people become fans of people involved in sports, politics, music, film, etc.

Despite the fact that we can become a fan of a persones of the opposite gender because of what they stand for and represent, is very unlikely that a guy can stan (in the sense that we all know) for a woman without this highly speaking about his sexuality because that means he identifies with females more than males, and he "wants to be" like that woman.

Of course when I talk about this, I'm not talking about someone who has just a few songs of, let's say, Rihanna or Lady Gaga, because they are hits. I'm talking about someone who has all of their albums and has them in their signature and stuff.

Of course I don't have anything against male stans (since I'm one of them, and I can testify all I'm saying based on pure observations of society), all I'm saying is that we shouldn't be offended when someone says that males who stan for pop girls are gay because that's most likely true. We are quick to be offended because we think it's a stereotype and people shouldn't be discriminatory but we should learn to deal with this, since it's not that far from reality.

I hope I expressed my point properly and I don't want anyone to be offended.

I'm a straight male who stans for POP girls and I will always get offended when people call me gay because of it. This stereotype is discriminatory because people who say it mean for it to be discrimination.

I don't think it's gays who are offended by that generalization... it's the males who claim to be heterosexual that are. I mean, it's a fair generalization when backed up by your points in the OP.

But at the same time, if someone tells you they're straight... you need to let it go and leave them alone.

Also, I think the general idea in the OP rarely applies to males outside of the U.S. People who are not from the U.S. have totally different perspectives on this stuff. A transfer student at my college was a total Madonna STAN and huge Britney fan but he was for sure 100% straight. It's just different overseas...

I don't see why it matters so much. If you stan for a Pop girl and say you're straight, good for you. Why do we always need to question people's sexuality?

For the most part generalizations are just best to avoid. You could have saved your energy if you just accepted not to say that one line.

I agree with you actually, I still have yet to meet a straight guy who loves Pop music to death that isn't gay.
